Week of May 6-10, 2019

Kindergarten News  
For Reading we will continue with Unit 6:  Building Our Homes.  The next story will be titled, “Old MacDonald had a Woodshop”.  We will be talking about what tools you need to build things.  We will review the short vowel sounds and review “characters”.   Watch for your Family Times news!  Continue to practice sight words!!!
            For Math, we will begin Unit 9, Base Ten and Mixed Review.  Students will explore, count, write, and compare numbers to 20 in different ways.  They will compose and decompose numbers to 20 as so many tens and ones and recognize and compare sets of numbers using tens and ones.   Take some time and review the daily work mats. Please review, sign and return Unit 8 assessment when it is sent home in RETURN.
            NSE will be having a Scholastic Book Fair from Mon, May 13-Friday, May 17.  Students will be able to shop at school and there will also be a Parent Shopping Night on Monday, May 13th from 4-7 pm.  **Our class also will have time to shop in school during our scheduled Library class on Thursday, May 16th from 1:50-2:10. Please note that due to a change in PA state laws we will now need to charge tax on all book fair sales, be sure to send in extra for tax!!
            The monthly PTO meeting will be held on Monday, May 6th at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria.  All are invited and encouraged to attend!
            The Reading teachers will begin their end-of-the-year testing on Monday, May 6th.  Boys and girls will write 2 dictation sentences, write as many words as they can correctly in 10 minutes, and identify each letter of the alphabet (upper and lower case), give the sounds for each letter including both short and long vowel sounds, and tell a word that begins with each sound.  Please try to have your child at school on time as testing will begin after announcements.
            Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 28th at 1:00 pm in the NS High School Auditorium.  A blue sign out/information sheet was sent home on Thursday, 5/2.  Due to limited seating, each Kindergarten student will be limited to 5 tickets.  **If a small child (non-school age) is going to sit on an adult’s lap, they will not need a ticket.  **Your Kindergarten child is not part of the count.  No one will be admitted to Graduation without a ticket.  Graduation tickets will be sent home on Friday, May 24th.  **If tickets are misplaced, we will not be able to replace them.  **Blue SIGN-OUT forms are due by Monday, May 13th if not already completed and returned.
            **Friday, May 24th will be the last day for our AR/Book Buddies.  Treats will be given for 15+ books recorded on the monthly recording sheet.  **Thank you for your participation and support!  I am SO proud of how well the boys and girls are reading!!!
Monday, May 6th will be Day 10 –Art.   Students will need sneakers and gym attire on Friday, May 10th.
