Kindergarten News
For
Reading we will begin Unit 6: Building
Our Homes. The first story will be
titled, “Building with Dad”. We will be talking about how a school is
built. We will review the short vowel
sounds and will finish our work with the sounds /y/ and /kw/ for the letters Y
and Q. On Wednesday, 5/1, the girls will finally get to be Queens for a Day!
For Math, we will continue with Unit 8- Coins and
Financial Literacy. We will be identifying
coins; penny, nickel, dime, and quarter by name and talk about earning income,
and understanding the difference between spending and saving.
Students in Grades 3-6 will be taking the PSSA
tests again next week. Kindergarten’s
schedule will be switched around M-T, 4/29-4/30. Special classes will be 9:00-9:40 instead of
1:50-2:30. Please talk to your child about being quiet while in the hallways
during testing days!!
New AR/”Book Buddy” recording sheets for May will be
sent home on Tuesday, April 30th. **APRIL
RECORDING SHEETS are due Tuesday, 4/30.
Students who read 15+ books in April will receive some Knoebels tickets
as a reward!!
Check your child’s folder Tuesday, 4/30, if he/she met the goal for
the month!!!
On Monday, May 6th, the Reading
teachers will begin the end-of-the-year testing with each Kindergarten child. Children will need to write a dictated
sentence or two, recognize, write, and give the sound of every letter of the
alphabet, be able to provide a word that begins with every letter sound, and be
able to write as many words correctly in 10 minutes. Please review at home!
NSE
will be having a Scholastic Book Fair from Mon, May 13 -Friday, May 17. Students
will be able to shop at school and there will also be a Mrs. Potts’ class
will shop during Library on Thursday, May 16th.
DIBELS testing for Math will be held
May 16th for Kindergarten.
Please practice comparing
quantities, naming numbers 0-100, and naming the next number when given a
number. **DIBELS testing for Reading
will be held May 21st for Kindergarten.
Kindergarten Graduation
will be held on Tuesday, May 28th at 1:00 pm in the NS High School
Auditorium. Specific
details about parking, seating, etc. will be sent home closer to the date. Due to limited seating, each Kindergarten
student will be limited to 5 tickets.
**If a small child (non-school age) is going to sit on an adult’s lap,
they will not need a ticket. **Your
Kindergarten child is not part of the count. No one will be admitted to Graduation
without a ticket. Graduation
tickets will be sent home closer to Graduation. **If
tickets are misplaced, we will not be able to replace them.
Monday, April 29th will
be Day 5 –ART. Students will need library books on
Thursday, May 2nd and sneakers & gym attire on Friday, May 3rd.
