Week of March 4-8, 2019

Kindergarten News

            Teeth-brushing charts are due back ASAP.   Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a dental health treat from Mrs. Potts!
            In Reading we will begin an informational text titled, If You Could Go to Antarctica, by author Fay Robinson.  We will work with short and long /e/ sounds and the letter Ee and practice the comprehension skill, classify and categorize.  Check out the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  Please practice high frequency word cards.
            For Math, we will be finishing with Unit 4; Understanding Addition.  Review practice pages as they come home in the folder and review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence.  Practice joining sets and counting how many altogether.
            Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 4th and continue through Friday, March 8th.  Check for Mrs. Potts’ ad in the CLASSIFIED section of the newspaper.  Ads can be sent to school during the week for treats. (See information sheet enclosed, 2/28.)
            Scholastic book orders for March are due on or by Wednesday, March 6th for anyone interested in ordering.  Orders can be given to the teacher or placed online at scholastic.com. 
            Kindergarten registration for the upcoming, 2019-2020 school year will be held the week of March 11- 15.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.
            The PTO Basket Raffle will be held on April 27th and 28thOur class’ theme basket will be “A Night with the Family”. Donations are due to the teacher by Friday, April 5th.  If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!!  You can refer to the note sent home previously with suggestions and ideas!!  Thank you in advance for your support!!             Boys and girls have enjoyed our celebration of Dr. Seuss this week.  Students from Bloomsburg University will be visiting Friday 3/8 to read The Shape of Me and Other Stuff & Oh, the Places You’ll Go and complete a follow-up activity.  Be sure to ask your child about the stories and activities.  Hats Off to Dr. Seuss!! Tuesday (3/5/19) will be DAY 7--Music on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need Library books for exchange on Wednesday, March 6th and gym attire and sneakers on Thursday, March 7th.
