Week of February 25-March 1, 2019

Kindergarten News 

**In Reading we will introduce the classic tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears as retold by Valeri Gorbachev.  We will review the comprehension skill, character and the letter sound /g/.  Watch for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  **Don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!

**In Math we will be continuing with Unit 4, Understanding Addition.  Review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence.  Practice joining sets and counting how many altogether.

**For Science we will be working with our Unit on Physical Science.  Our big questions will be; What are objects like?  and What are matter and mixtures? We will learn about our 5 senses and the states of matter; solids, liquids, and gases.

**This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Thursday, February 28^th.  The goal for the month is 15 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goal will receive a Pizza Hut coupon and a treat! 

**Friday, March 1^st is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss.  Throughout the week we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss.  Some Bloomsburg University students will visit our classroom on 3/1 to read a book and to do a follow up activity with the class.

**Teeth-brushing charts are due back by Friday, March 1^st.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.

**Scholastic book orders will be due on or before Wednesday, March 6^th for anyone interested in ordering in March.

**Newspaper in Education Week will be March 4-8.   Detailed notes will be sent home soon, so please watch for information in your child’s folder.

**Kindergarten registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be held the week of March 11-15.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

**The PTO Basket Raffle will be held in April.  Our class’ theme basket will be “A Night with the Family”.  A note will be sent home soon with suggestions and ideas and more detailed information.  

Monday, February 25^th will be Day 2—Music on the special classes’ schedule.  *Boys and girls will need SNEAKERS AND GYM ATTIRE on Day 4- Wednesday 2/27.  (Please note that if school is CLOSED due to inclement weather, the special class schedule is bumped to the next school day.)
