Week of February 18-22, 2019

Kindergarten News
School will be OPEN on Monday, February 18th (President’s Day) due to a snow make-up day.
*For Reading our story will be One Little Mouse! by Dori Chaconas.  It will be a rhyming/concept story and we will review the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will introduce consonant blends too.  Look for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  Also, don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!
            *In Math we will continue with Unit 4:  Understanding Addition.  Students will learn to join two groups and tell how many there are altogether.  They will learn to use the plus sign and the equal sign and learn about addition sentences.  Review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence and continue to review daily workmats/lessons.    
            *NED’s Mindset Mission assembly is visiting our school on Tuesday, February 19th.  The performance takes your child on a journey filled with humor, yo-yo and magic tricks, puppetry, and storytelling inspiring them to:  Never give up, Encourage others, and Do their best.   **Yo-yos and accessories will be available @ the SCHOOL STORE February 20-26.  (Check out the orange flyer that was sent home Thursday, 2/14!)
            *This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Thursday, February 28th.  The goal for the month is 15 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goals will receive a Pizza Hut coupon and monthly treat! 
            *Kindergarten registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be held March 11-15, 2019.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this info. to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office. 
            *Teeth-brushing charts are due back by the week ending March 1.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.  (Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!)
            * Friday, March 1st is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the upcoming weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday, 3/1 to read and to do a follow up activity with the students.
*Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 4th and continue through Friday, March 8th.  **Information with details will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.
Thank you to our homeroom helpers for helping with the Valentine’s Day classroom party!  Students had a   LOVE-ly time.  It was SWEET of you to volunteer!  Also, thank you to ALL the students for their sweet Valentines!  XOXO
Monday, February 18th is Day 10 on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Friday, 2/22.
