Kindergarten News

**Spring Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, March 26^th.   **For best results, DO NOT wear GREEN.  All students will be photographed.  Pictures will be available for purchase in 7-10 days.  Background for girls will be #3 and for boys #4.  To request a different background complete and return the form sent home on Thursday, 3/14.

For Reading we will read the story Mayday! Mayday! A Coast Guard Rescue.  It is an informational text and we will be discussing cause and effect.  Watch for your Family Times newsletter!  High frequency words, yellow, green, and blue will be the focus of this story.  Please practice all sight words daily!!  We will discuss what kinds of transportation help us in an emergency.  We will be working with the phonics sound /ks/ spelled with the letter Xx.

In Math, we will wrap-up Unit 5: Understanding Subtraction.  Students will solve subtraction word problems, will use the minus sign to represent take away situations when recording subtraction, will use the equal sign, subtract, and write the difference.  Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.

**The March AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets are due on Monday, April 1^st.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.  

The first annual Kindergarten Prom will be held on Saturday, April 13^th.  All Kindergarten students are welcome to attend in the NSE gymnasium.  Each attending student must be accompanied by a “date” which should be his/her chosen parent/guardian.  **All paperwork with $20 payment is due by Friday, March 29^th.  Students are limited to one guest.  Doors open @ 4:45 and the event will close at 7PM.  All checks should be made payable to “NS ThinkBIG”.

FYI:  Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 4^th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes were sent home earlier this week.   **All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.   **GRADUATION will be held on Tuesday, May 28^th @ 1:00PM in the NS High School Auditorium.

Thank you to ALL who have donated to our class’ Basket Raffle basket/bin for the PTO Auction coming up on April 27^th and 28^th!  Our theme is “A Night with the Family”.  Donations are DUE by April 12^th but Mrs. Potts would like them by Friday, April 5^th.  So far we have one monetary donation and a box of a few crafts, a 3-in-1 game, a 1000-piece puzzle, Guess Who? Game and UNO.  (If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.) There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the blue note sent home with suggestions and ideas.  **STUDENTS WHO BRING A DONATION WILL RECEIVE A FREE SPARTAN DRESS DOWN DAY ON FRIDAY, APRIL 26^th. 

Monday, March 25^th is Day 1—Computers, Tuesday, March 27^th will be Day 2—Music, Wednesday, March 27^th will be Day 3--Guidance, Thursday, March 28^th will be Day 4—Physical Education (sneakers & gym attire) and Friday, March 29^th will be Day 5--Art.
