Week of April 1-5, 2019

Kindergarten News    
**The March AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets are due on Monday, April 1st.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.   Students who met the goal will receive a Pizza Hut slip and a treat.  New April forms will be enclosed.
Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 4th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  **Envelopes were sent home previously with portrait package information.  If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Wednesday, April 3rd in your child’s folder.  (checks made payable to PSP) **All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap. **FYI:  Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 28th@ 1:00 PM in the high school auditorium.
                  For Reading we will continue with the next story in Unit 5 Trucks Roll!  It is a non-fiction, rhyming story and we will be talking about forms of transportation.  The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is compare and contrast and we will work with the initial and medial short vowel sound /u/.  A new Family Times newsletter will be sent home on Monday.  Take time to practice sight word flashcards, especially what, said, and was!!!
                  United States’ reports will begin on Tuesday, April 8th!  **Check the date on the top of your child’s report pages and be sure to have him/her practice presenting the facts to you at home.  It will be fun to learn about many of our Fifty, Nifty United States!
                  In Math, we will begin with Unit 7—Time, Data, and Measurement.   Practice telling time to the hour and continue to review addition and subtraction. Take some time to review daily work mats.  **Be sure to sign, review, and return Unit 5 Assessments.

                  The monthly NSE PTO Meeting will be held on Monday, 4/1 @ 6:30PM in the cafeteria.
                 
                  The NSE Art Show will be held in the cafeteria on Tuesday, 4/2 from 4-6 PM.  Please stop by to check out all the awesome artwork!!  The 6th grade Science Fair will be held on Tuesday, 4/2 and Wednesday, 4/3 from 4-6 PM in the NSE Gym.

         Thank you to ALL who have donated to our class’ Basket Raffle basket/bin for the PTO Auction coming up on April 27th and 28th!  Our theme is “A Night with the Family”.  Donations are DUE by April 12th but Mrs. Potts would like them by Friday, April 5th.  So far we have one monetary donation and a box of a few crafts, two art canvases and paint, a 3-in-1 game, a 1000-piece puzzle, a water balloon set, cans of spray chalk for outdoors, a Guess Who? Game and UNO.  (If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.) There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the blue note sent home with suggestions and ideas.  **STUDENTS WHO BRING A DONATION WILL RECEIVE A FREE SPARTAN DRESS DOWN DAY ON FRIDAY, APRIL 26th. 
The NSE ELEMENTARY DINE OUT @ the WHEEL Restaurant will take place on Saturday, April 6, 11AM-9PM.  10% of all dine-in and carry-out sales on 4/6 will be returned to our PTO.  Enjoy some great food while supporting our PTO!
The first annual Kindergarten Prom will be held on Saturday, April 13th.  Each attending student must be accompanied by a “date” which should be his/her chosen parent/guardian.  **All paperwork with $20 payment was due by Friday, March 29th. Doors open @ 4:45 and the event will close at 7PM.
Monday, April 1st will be Day 6—COMPUTERS on the special classes’ schedule. **Students will need library books for exchange on Wednesday, April 3rd  and sneakers on Thursday, April 4th (Boys and girls need a white collared shirt for Graduation photos, so if your child wants to change for gym class he/she can bring a change of clothes or just wear the white collared shirt for gym class.)
