Week of January 21-25, 2019

Kindergarten News
            For Reading this week we will read the story, The Lion and the Mouse. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.  We will review the short /o/ sound in words and continue to work with the high frequency words; they, of, and you.   Be sure to practice sight word flashcards often and watch for the new Family Times news!
            Just a reminder:  January AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets will be due on Thursday, January 31st.  The goal for the month is 15 books.  Any student who reads and records 15 or more books will receive a Pizza Hut reward coupon and a treat.  Happy Reading!!
            In Math, we will continue with Unit 3- Comparing numbers 0-20.  Continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s and writing numbers to 20.  Take some time to review daily practice pages! 
            Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100th day is just eight school days away!!!  On Thursday, January 31st students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old! We cannot think of a more fun way to celebrate than to dress up!  Please send students in grandma or grandpa type attire.  **Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100th day will be moved to the next day.  (Please watch for a 100th day newsletter enclosed in your child’s folder next week!)
             NSE PTO BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN FUNDRAISER IS HERE!  A glow fun run will be held in the NSE gym on Thursday, January 24th and Students are asked to wear the black and green NS field trip T-shirt that was given to them earlier in the school year by the PTO.  The program kicked-off with a digital pep rally on Monday, January 14th.  Family and friends can support our students by pledging for every lap your child runs (30-35). Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MindSpark Mystery Lab. **You can help NSE PTO by registering on funrun.com by searching our school name.  Thank you in advance for all your support!
Congratulations to all students who successfully completed their dinosaur reports! It was a fun and educational way to learn about some of the dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago.  **Thank you to all the parents who helped “prepare” the children for their first oral report. (Our next oral report will be with the letter Uu for United States.)
Tuesday, January 22nd will be Day 9—Gym Class. **Boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Tuesday, 1/22.
Thursday, January 24th will be a Non-Rotation day with no Encore/Special Class due to the Boosterthon Fun Run!  Friday, 1/25 will be Day 1 instead of Day 3. (please note the change from the blue monthly calendar)
           ** 2nd Marking Period report cards are scheduled to be sent home on Friday, 1/25.
