Week of January 14-18, 2019

Kindergarten News
For Reading we will continue with Unit 3 and the storyThen and Now.  It is a nonfiction book and we will talk about the comprehension strategy “draw conclusions”. We will also work with the initial and medial short/o/ sound and the letter Oo.  Watch for your new Family Timesnews and practice new high frequency sight words; youof, and they!   

In Math, we will be continue with Unit 3- Comparing and Ordering numbers 0-20.  Be sure to review daily practice pages and continue to practice counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s and write numbers 0-20.
Wednesday, January 16thwill be our 90thday of school and we will be halfway through Kindergarten! WOW!  We will celebrate for the 100thday tentativelyon January 30th.   More details will be coming home closer to the date.  (**Since 1/16 will be the 90thday, the third marking period will begin on Thursday, 1/17.  Report cards are scheduled to be sent home on Friday, 1/25.)
NSE PTO SPARTAN FUN RUN FUNDRAISER IS HERE!  glow fun runwill be held in the NSE gym on January 24th.  The 9-day program will kick off with a digital pep rally on Monday, January 14th.  Family and friends can support our students by pledging for every lap your child runs (30-35). Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Mind Spark Mystery Lab**You can help NSE PTO by registering on funrun.com by searching our school name.  Thank you in advance for all your support!
January Scholastic Book Orders will be due on Thurs. 1/17for anyone interested in ordering.
DIBELS Next Reading will be tested on Thursday, January 17th.  Take some time to practice with your child—letter naming, first sound fluency, phoneme segmentation, and blending and reading nonsense words. 
**All staff and students can wear a Spartan shirt with jeans or sweatpants with a $1 donationon Friday, January 18th for the monthly Dress Down Day.  
Monday, January 14thwill be Day 4—Physical Education.  **Students will need sneakers and gym attire on Monday, 1/14 and Library books on Friday, 1/18.
