Week of October 15-19, 2018

Kindergarten News

·      For Reading we will begin Unit 2; Look at Us.  The first story is Flowers.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter.  Please review recognizing capital and lowercase letters from Aa to Zz and the high frequency words; I, am, the, little, to, a, have and is.   We will be learning the vowel letter Aa as in apple and acorn.  We will focus on the short vowel sound. **Don’t forget to practice sight word flashcards, letter naming, and first sound fluency daily!!!

·      In Math, we will be working with Unit 6: 2D and 3D Shapes and Solids. Take some time to review shapes and practice sorting items by shape, size, and/or color.  Also, continue to practice numbers 0-10!!!

·      The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the Library starting Monday, October 15^th.   **Parents will be able to shop with their child on Monday night 10/15 from 4-7 PM.   Mrs. Potts’ class will also be shopping in school on Monday, October 15^th from 2:30-3:10.

·      Oct. 7-14 was Fire Prevention Week so please take some time at home to discuss fire safety with your child and family.  Be sure to have a practice fire drill and create an escape plan with a designated meeting place and watch for our class book, Be Cool About Fire Safety in the upcoming weeks!

·      Just a few reminders:

o   The School Store will be closed during this week (10/15-10/19) due to the BOOK FAIR in the library. 

o   There will be a brief FALL FESTIVAL planning meeting on Monday, October 15^th at 5:00.  **Anyone who plans on attending should meet in front of the school store.

o   FRIDAY, 10/19 will be our MONTHLY PAID SPARTAN DRESS DOWN DAY—Students participating are to bring a $1 donation!!

o   Red Ribbon Week will begin on Monday, Oct. 22^nd.  (**DRESS UP THEMES & DATES ARE LISTED ON YOUR ORANGE OCTOBER CALENDAR).

o   Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23^rd.  Anyone wishing to have pictures retaken are asked to return the complete picture package on or before 10/23 and dress to the school dress code.

o   The School-wide FALL CELEBRATION/Halloween Parade & Party will be held on Wednesday, October 31st from 1:30-3:00.  (Details will be sent home soon)

Monday, October 15^th will be Day 4-Physical Education. **Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Monday, 10/15.   Tuesday, 10/16 will be Day 5 ART.  Wednesday, 10/17 will be Day 6 COMPUTERS.  Thursday, 10/18 will be Day 7 MUSIC.  Friday, 10/19 will be LIBRARY, but due to the BOOK FAIR there will be NO BOOK EXCHANGE until the following week.
