Week of October 22-26, 2018

Kindergarten News  
**The Book Fair ended, Friday, 10/19.  Thank you in to ALL the parent volunteers who helped at the fair, and thank you to all who purchased books too.  Happy reading!


**The Kindergarten Field Trip has been rescheduled and will be Friday, December 14th.Students will be going on a train ride on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in Jim Thorpe.  Students will be visiting with Santa aboard the train.  Students are encouraged to dress like the characters from the Polar Express and wear their pajamas on the field trip.  RED Permission slips were sent home on Monday, 10/15 and should be returned ASAP.  GREEN Chaperone slips were also sent home to eligible volunteers and need to be returned with payment no later than November 2nd.  (Earlier is better for planning purposes)
**In Reading we will begin to read the story Nature Spy.  We will be looking at what we can learn about nature when we look closely.   We will focus on learning the comprehension skill settingand practice the learned high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Timesnewsletter to be sent home!  We will be reviewing letter Aa and its two sounds, short /a/ as in cat and long /a/ as in acorn, and learning the consonant letter Ss as in sun, snake, and Saturday.  Please continue to review all the letters we have learned so far and practice high frequency sight words daily.    
**For Math we will continue with Unit 6- 2D and 3D Shapes and Solids, so review 2D and 3D solid shapes and sorting objects by attributes; size, color, and shape.  
**Red Ribbon Week  campaign is set for October 22-30, 2018.  The theme is “Life is Your Journey- Travel Drug Free!” – Check out the week’s scheduled dress days on your orange October calendars (Mon. 10/22—wear superhero shirt; Tues. 10/23—wear crazy socks; Wed. 10/24—wear school spirit shirt; Thurs. 10/25—wear favorite team shirt; Friday 10/26—wear jeans; Mon. 10/29—crazy hair day; Tues. 10/30—wear red.
**Friday, October 26thwill be the Kindergarten Fall Festival  Students may dress down in gym clothes or wear jeans.  
JUST A FEW REMINDERS:  
·      PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23rd.
·      2018 PRE-K Counts Kindergarten Outcomes Study forms NEED to be returned to Mrs. Potts no later than Tuesday, Oct. 23rd.  **Forms can also be completed online!!  (Please follow directions on the information sheet attached to your packet that was sent home on Monday, 10/15.)
·      We are currently collecting money for the classroom parties.  If you have NOT yet sent in the party money, then please send in $5.00 in an envelope with your child’s name and classroom and mark “Party Money” on the outside of the envelope.  Thank you!
·      Wednesday, Oct. 31stwill be our FALL CELEBRATION/HALLOWEEN PARADE & PARTY.  (more details will be sent home next week)
**With the cooler weather upon us, be sure your child is prepared with a jacket and/or hat for our 30-minute recess outside.  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat.
Monday, October 22ndwill be Day 9—Phys. Ed., and students will need sneakers and gym attire.
