Kindergarten News
REMINDER:  Sept. 18, 19, and 20 is LUNCH FOR LIFE in the cafeteria.  It is a 3-day event to welcome Kindergarteners into the cafeteria, make them feel special, and introduce them to tasty lunches.  Kindergarteners are invited to try a complimentary lunch.  There will be free prizes each day your child participates!!
Our next Reading story will be Plaidypus Lost.  We will be talking about how families cooperate, we will be learning to recognize the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss, and we will practice the comprehension skill: sequence.  Watch for your Family Times newsletter to come home in your child’s folder.  Continue to read at home, talk about story characters and setting, and recognize the letters from Aa-Nn, as well as the high frequency words I, am, the and little.
**Word List 1 for “Camera Words”/ sight words, was checked this past week!  Check the list enclosed in your child’s folder (PLASTIC SHEET).  Please keep the list there, but use it to study the appropriate list(s) for your child.  Lists should be checked every week or two as time allows.
In Math, we will continue with Unit 1—Numbers to 10. Please take some time to review the daily practice pages that your child brings home in his/her KEEP side of the communication folder.  **Also, take some time to practice Number Writing Songs for formation of #s.
Next week we will start a Social Studies Unit—Citizenship.  Our focus is on the question, “What does it mean to be a good citizen?”  Our first lessons will be about rules and laws and then the next lessons will be about good and bad choices, being a good friend, sharing, and taking turns, working hard and trying our best and cooperating.  Take some time to ask your child about the daily lessons and discuss what being a good citizen looks like at home and in your community!
Friday, September 21st will be a SPARTAN DRESS DOWN DAY!  Students are asked to bring a $1 donation if participating.
Saturday, September 22nd is the First Day of Autumn/Fall and we will be starting an “APPLE” theme and continue it through the remainder of September.   We will learn about the seasons and continue our Science observations using our apple theme. **Students are asked to bring in an apple on Monday, September 24th.  The apple can be any size, color, or kind.  Each day of that week we will use the apples for sorting, graphing, and/or tasting. It should be a sweet week!!!
The Kindergarten FIELD TRIP will be THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11th.  Yellow Permission slips/forms will be sent home on FRIDAY, 9/14 in the RETURN side of your child’s folder. **Please complete and return form (two sided) as soon as possible.  (Green CHAPERONE forms will also be enclosed for any eligible PTO members with all the required clearances on file.)
The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Friday, October 26th.   All volunteers who will be participating at the Fall Festival MUST have all 4 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal, FBI Fingerprinting, and Mandated Reporter Training) on file in the office.  The Fall Festival is not a PTO event, so you do not have to be a member of the PTO to help.
Due to the changes in temperature inside and outside the school, some students may want to bring a sweater or sweatshirt without a hood to keep in their cubbies in case they feel chilly!  Jackets with hoods should not be worn inside during the school day.
