Kindergarten Newsletter
Students in grades K-3 will
be receiving hearing screenings at school on Wednesday, September 12th
and/or Thursday, Sept. 13th. (Please
talk with your child about the importance of being quiet while waiting to be
screened.)
On Monday, we will begin our 2nd
Reading story, We Are So Proud. We
will work on recognizing the letters Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm. and Nn.
Watch for your Family Times
newsletter and take home story—Am I?
to come home in your child’s book buddy bag.
Continue to read at home, talk about story characters (who the story is
about) and setting (where and when the story takes place), and read the high
frequency words I and am. **Also, review and practice recognizing
letters Aa-Ee.
**Word list 1 (I, a, and, the, to) will be checked
during the upcoming week by Friday, 9/14 and if
all words are read correctly, then Word List 2 will be tested next. If more time is needed with list one, then
List 1 words will be checked again the following week before List 2. Continue to practice sight words daily!!
In Math, we will continue working
with Unit 1—Numbers to 10. Boys
and girls should practice counting objects/sets to 10, count by 1s to 10,
recognize and write numbers 0-10, and use a 10 frame to show numbers 0-10.
For Science, we will begin to work
with Chapter 1 The Nature of Science.
We will be discussing how we share what we learn, tools we use to
observe, and will answer the Big Question – “What
is science?” Students will be
learning the following vocabulary words:
science, observe, and senses.
Most boys and girls have been doing
a Super Job with their AR “Book Buddy”
books and bags. Remember, any books
your child and you read together at home can be recorded on the monthly reading
log enclosed in your child’s “Book Buddy” bag. **Also,
please be sure to complete the log when the book enclosed is read. Some books are being returned without being
recorded. If you aren’t planning to participate, then PLEASE SEND A NOTE &
RETURN THE BOOK.
The PTO school store will open on Monday,
September 10th. Kindergarten

to shop ONLY on this day of the week and at the scheduled time. Please
do not put school store money in your child’s folder. (Teachers will NOT see it until after the
store closes.) **Students should keep it separate in backpacks where THEY can reach it
easily for shopping BEFORE homeroom.
