Week of October 1-5, 2018

Kindergarten News

·      We will be starting our 5th story for Reading, Smash! Crash!  Watch for your Family Times newsletter.  Our focus will be on the story’s character.  We will be working with the consonant letter Mm and the beginning and final sound /m/ in words.  Continue to read at home and practice the high frequency words, practice rhyming and counting syllables in words and identifying the letters from Aa-Zz. Your child should be able to read the little readers that come home on day 2 of the new story! **“Camera Words” (sight words) were checked this past week—be sure to practice daily!!
·      For Math, we will finish up with Unit 1- Numbers 0-10.  Be sure to review daily practice pages and have your child identify numbers 0-10, write numerals 0-10 correctly, count sets of objects with one-to-one correspondence to 10, use five and ten frames to count and count in sequence 0-10, identify the number before and after a given number from 0-10.
·      AR/Book Buddy September recording sheets were due to school on Friday, September 28th.  Students who read 15 or more books will receive a monthly treat!!  New October recording sheets were enclosed in bags on Friday.  (The goal for October is also 15+ books.)  **Dont forget library books can also be recorded on the recording sheets!
Upcoming events and reminders:
            ~Wear a BLUE Shirt on Monday, 10/1 for BLUE SHIRT DAY to signify the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month and DRESS DOWN for free with jeans or sweats.
            --The monthly PTO meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 1st @ 6:30 in the NSE cafeteria.  All are invited and encouraged to attend! 
--October Scholastic Book Orders are due by Thursday, October 4th.  (Orders can be placed online with the classroom code GJXGV or sent to the teacher in an envelope)
            ~Friday October 5th is an ACT 80 Half Day.  Students will be dismissed at 12:00.  
            ~Monday October 8th Columbus Day is a scheduled Teacher In-Service Day.  **There will be  
NO SCHOOL for students.
            ~Homecoming Spirit Week will be held October 8-12.  Tuesday, 10/9 will be Decades Day; Wednesday, 10/10 will be Cartoon Wednesday; (THURSDAYFIELD TRIP) Friday, 10/12 Spartan Pride Dress Down Friday.  **There will be a Pep Rally 10/12 in the NSE gymnasium!!
~ The Kindergarten Field Trip will be Thursday, October 11th. Students will visit Rohrbach’s Farm in Catawissa and take an educational tour of the farm, go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin, and have time to play in play land!  Students may wear jeans or sweatpants with the field trip shirt (coming soon).  Please be on time for school and dress for the weather.   Students do not need any money for the trip.  (**Just a reminder for chaperones---$8 is due by Fri. Sept. 28th.  Checks payable to NSE PTO.)
~The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the library October 15-19.  Students will have an opportunity to shop at school, Monday 10/15 (2:30-3:10).  **Parent night to shop will be Monday, 10/15 from 4-7 pm.
~Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23rd. 
            ~The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Friday, October 26th. **Anyone who has not yet sent in his/her $3.00 please do so ASAP!  Thank You!
            ~FALL CELEBRATION/ Parade & Party will be held on Wednesday, 10/31 from 1:30-3:00. (more details will follow in the upcoming week(s.)

Monday, October 1st will be Day 5--Art.  **Students will need library books on Thursday, 10/4 and gym attire and sneakers on Friday, 10/5.
