Week of March 19-23, 2018

Kindergarten News

      For Reading we will begin Unit 5: Going Places.  Our first story will be Max Takes the Train by Rosemary Wells.  It is an animal fantasy story and we will be discussing realism and fantasy.  Please practice all sight words daily!  Since we will be working with the letter Jj and its sound as in joke, students are asked to tell a kid’s JOKE this week.  Jokes can be written down or memorized and should be practiced at home before they are told to the class.  Jokes can be shared any day!

     For Math, we will wrap-up Topic 8; Understanding Subtraction and begin Topic 9; Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10.  Students will learn different ways to make 4 through 10 and write number sentences to show these different ways.   Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.  Be sure to review, sign and return Topic 8 test when it is enclosed in RETURN.

      Scholastic book orders for April are due on or before Wednesday, 4/4.  Orders can be placed online or sent to school. 

     Spring Photos have been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 3^rd due to the weather delay on March 9^th.

**The PTO Basket Auction will be held on April 14^th and 15^th.  Our class’ theme basket is “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received the following donations; A Groupon Gift Card, a Dairy Queen Gift Card, Guess Who? Game, Connect 4 game, Chutes and Ladders game, Go Fish card game, Crazy 8s card game, Smurfs DVD “Legend of Smurfy Hollow”, Build your own wooden cars craft, cake mix, microwave popcorn, and a monetary donation.  Donations are due to the teacher the week ending March 30. There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the note sent home with suggestions and ideas.  Students, who bring a donation, will earn a free dress down day on April 6^th. 

FYI:  Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 22^nd @ 1:00 pm in the high school auditorium.  (see yellow information sheet sent home in KEEP on Friday, 3/16.)

Monday, March 19^th is Day 2—Music.  Be sure to wear sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday, 3/21.
