Week of March 12-16, 2018

Kindergarten News
**Report cards for the 2nd trimester will be sent home on Tuesday, March 13th.  Report cards are to stay home, but the ENVELOPE NEEDS TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, then please contact Mrs. Potts.

In Reading we will read the story, Abuela, by author Arthur Dorros.  It will be the last of our “adventure” stories for Unit 4.  It will be a fiction story about a city adventure and the boys and girls will learn a few Spanish words.  We will work with short and long /e/ sounds and the letter Ee and practice the comprehension skill, setting.  Check out the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  Please practice high frequency word cards.

For Math, we will continue with Topic 8; Understanding Subtraction.  Students will act out and solve subtraction word problems, will use the minus sign to represent take away situations when recording subtraction, will use the equal sign, subtract, and write the difference.  Review practice pages as they come home in the folder. 

Kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018, school year will be held this week, March 12-16.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

Newspaper in Education Week ended on Friday, March 9th.  Mrs. Potts’ ad was in the Tuesday edition (3/6).  Ads can be turned in any day for a treat from the teacher.  **The “I’m a Reader” forms, for those who participated, NEED to be returned to the teacher by Thursday, March 13th with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.

Friday, March 16th will be our monthly DRESS DOWN Day.  **Students may wear a SPARTAN shirt with sweatpants or jeans for a $1 donation. 

Daylight Savings began on Sunday, March 11th.    **As per the student handbook, students will NOW be permitted to wear dress code appropriate shorts to school (weather permitting of course).

**The PTO Spring Fling Basket Auction will be held on April 14th and 15th.  Our class’ theme basket is “A Night with the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has not received any donations.  Donations are due to the teacher the week ending March 30. There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the note sent home with suggestions and ideas.

Monday, March 12th is Day 7—Music.  Be sure to pack Library books for exchange on Tuesday, 3/13 and wear sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday, 3/14 (**Please note if school is cancelled the schedule bumps to the next day).
