Kindergarten News

**This week in Phonics we will be learning the vowel letter Ii and its short sound as in igloo and inch and its long sound as in ice. We will focus more on the short vowel sound. Please review sounds and writing of all letters learned so far. There will be NO SHOW & TELL next week. A second decodable reader titled Hop on the Mop will be sent home late in the week. Be sure to listen to your child read the story and discuss the questions on the back inside cover. Then add the story to the little library box that was sent home with #1 Hot, Hot, Hot.

**In Reading we will read the trade book, Armadillo’s Orange by Jim Arnosky. We will be talking about orange groves and learning about the letter Ss and the /s/ sound. We will focus on learning about the setting of a story and will practice the learned high frequency words; have, is, a, I, the, and little.

**In Math we will be finishing Chapter 4 Numbers 6-10. Keep practicing counting sets and identifying and writing numbers correctly. (The test for this chapter will most likely be on Wednesday.) The next chapter will be Geometry and Fractions. Students will learn to recognize and name geometric shapes and equal parts.

**We will begin preparing for “Thanksgiving”. Students will learn about the first Thanksgiving, will make pilgrim and Native American costumes, and will begin to learn a poem or song for the holiday. We will make some turkeys and will also discuss being “thankful”. The students will even get to use a Native American name for a day!!!

**Thank you to all the parents who attended the parent/teacher conferences on Tues. and Thurs. Your interest and support in your child’s education is important to your child’s success!

**If you haven’t returned your child’s report card, then please sign and return it as soon as possible.

Monday, November 16th will be day 5 on the special classes’ schedule. Don’t forget library books for Tuesday’s book exchange!
