· This week in Phonics we will be learning the letter Gg and its sound as in goat. Please review the sounds /l/, /o/, and /g/ and how to write the letters we have already learned. We will have Show & Tell for Gg, so please follow your classroom schedule.
· On Wednesday, we will begin our 3rd Reading story Plaidypus Lost. We will be talking about how families cooperate, we will be learning to recognize the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss, and we will practice the comprehension skill: sequence. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter to come home in your child’s folder. Continue to read at home, talk about story characters and setting, and recognize the letters from Aa-Nn, as well as the high frequency words I and am.
· We’ll be finishing Chapter 1: Sort and Classify in Math with a test on Tuesday. Please review positional words; in, out, top, middle, bottom, over, under, above, below, and especially left and right. Boys ad girls will need to know how to sort objects by color, shape, size, and kind. In Chapter 2: Patterns the students will copy patterns, show what comes next in patterns, and make new ones. We will also find the part of a pattern that repeats again and again.
· We have already completed three weeks of school and many students are familiar with their bus numbers, however, we are asking that students continue to wear their bus tags or at least be sure to have them handy inside their backpacks. If your child has lost his/her bus tag then please write your child’s name, the teacher’s name, the bus number your child rides to and from school, and any other information you would like to include (address, phone #, child’s destination, etc…) on an index card or piece of paper and place it inside your child’s backpack. This will be very helpful for teachers on bus duty and for any substitute teachers or bus drivers. Thank you for your support!
· Parents, please check folders daily and remove all “KEEP” items. It becomes difficult to handle folders with too many papers inside (both for the students and teachers). Thank you for your cooperation and support!
· Monday will be Day 3 on the special classes’ schedule.
· Friday is Spartan Spirit Day! Students may wear an NS shirt or school colors to show their school spirit.
