We have finished our second week of school and the students are adjusting very well! We also learned to recognize and write the letter “L” last week. The students enjoyed showing their “L” items from home for show-and-tell and they really enjoyed our Luau Party on Friday!!!
Our Phonics letter for this week is “O” as in octopus. The show-and-tell schedule for the letter “O” will be the same as this past week. New “brown bags” are in your child’s folder. The letter Oo is a vowel and has 2 sounds. We will focus on the short sound, but will also introduce the long sound that “says its own name”.
We will finish reading The Little School Bus this week and begin Fix It Duck. Watch for your Family Times newsletter to come home with details about our upcoming story and skills we will be working on in Reading. Please continue to review our Amazing words the ordinal numbers first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth, letter recognition of letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee, the story element “character”, and the high frequency words I and am.
In Math we will continue to work with positional words like above, below, over, under, in, out, left, and right. We will also be learning to sort objects by color, shape, size, and kind.
Monday, September 14 will be school picture day. K-Potts will be photographed @ 10:40 am. Information was sent home in your child’s folder last week. (FYI: Money is due at the time of pictures and school dress code is to be followed on picture day!)
The School-wide Book Fair will also take place this week, September 14-18. Kindergarten will be shopping in school on Thursday, September 17th. Our class’ scheduled time is 9:15-9:45am. Monday, September 21st will be a make-up day as needed.
