Week of April 30-May 4, 2018

Kindergarten News

**Kindergarten Physicals will be held on Monday, April 30^th for any students who received a white form from the school nurse.  (Not all students will participate.)

For Reading we will begin Unit 6:  Building Our Homes.  The first story will be titled, “Building with Dad”.  We will be talking about how a school is built.  We will review the short vowel sounds and will finish our work with the sounds /y/ and /kw/ for the letters Y and Q. On Wednesday, 5/2, the girls will finally get to be Queens for a Day!

            For Math, we will begin Topic 12, Measurement.  We will be comparing objects by length, height, capacity, and weight.  Take some time and review the daily work mats.  **Please review, sigh, and return Topic 11 Test.

         New AR/”Book Buddy” recording sheets for May will be sent home on Monday, April 30^th.  **APRIL RECORDING SHEETS are due Monday, 4/30.  Students who read 15+ books in April will receive some Knoebels tickets as a reward!!  Check your child’s folder Monday, 4/30, if he/she met the goal for the month!!!

            May Scholastic book orders are due to Mrs. Potts by Tuesday, May 1^st.  **Please note these are the classroom orders NOT the school Book Fair.

         NSE will be having a Scholastic Book Fair from Mon, May 7 -Friday, May 11.  Students will be able to shop at school and there will also be a Parent Shopping Night on Monday, May 7^th from 4-7 pm.

            DIBELS testing will begin next week for Math.  Please practice comparing quantities, naming numbers 0-100, and naming the next number when given a number.  DIBELS testing for Reading will begin the week of May 14.

            The May PTO meeting will be held on Monday, May 7^th @ 6:30 PM in the school cafeteria.  All are invited and encouraged to attend!!

            Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 22^nd at 1:00 pm in the NS High School Auditorium.  Specific details about parking, seating, etc. will be sent home closer to the date.  Due to limited seating, each Kindergarten student will be limited to 5 tickets.  **If a small child (non-school age) is going to sit on an adult’s lap, they will not need a ticket.  **Your Kindergarten child is not part of the count.  No one will be admitted to Graduation without a ticket.  Graduation tickets will be sent home closer to Graduation.  **If tickets are misplaced, we will not be able to replace them.  “SIGN OUT” sheets forms were sent home on Friday, April 20^th and need to be returned by Monday, May 7^th!

 Monday, April 30^th will be Day 8 –LIBRARY, so be sure to pack library books for exchange.    Students will need sneakers and gym attire on Tuesday, May 1^st.
