Week of February 19-23, 2018

Kindergarten News

School will be OPEN on Monday, February 19^th (President’s Day) due to a snow make-up day.

*For Reading our next story will be One Little Mouse! by Dori Chaconas.  It will be a rhyming/concept story and we will review the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will introduce consonant blends too.  Look for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  Also, don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!

            *In Math we will begin with Topic 7:  Understanding Addition.  Students will learn to join two groups and tell how many there are altogether.  They will learn to use the plus sign and the equal sign and learn about addition sentences.  Review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence and continue to review daily workmats/lessons.    

            *MOVIE NIGHT will be held at the High School Auditorium on Friday, February 23^rd @ 7:00 PM.  All are invited to attend!!!

            *This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Wednesday, February 28^th.  The goal for the month is 15 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goals will receive a Pizza Hut coupon and monthly treat! 

            *Kindergarten registration for the 2018-2019 school year will be held March 12-16, 2018.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this info. to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office. 

            *Toothbrush charts are due back by the week ending March 2^rd.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.  (Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!)

            * Friday, March 2^nd is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the upcoming weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday, 3/2 to read and to do a follow up activity with the students.

*Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 5^th and continue through Friday, March 9^th.  **Information with details will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.

            *The 5^th annual NSE Chinese auction will be held at NSE this year on Saturday, April 14^th and Sunday, April 15^th.  You may “Shop and Drop” on Saturday and on Sunday.  The auction will start promptly at 3:00 on Sunday.  Donations of prizes are greatly appreciated!! Monday, February 19^th is Day 4 on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Monday, 2/19 and Library books for exchange on Friday, February 23^rd.
