Week of October 30-November 3, 2017

Kindergarten News

**In Reading we will read the book Animal Babies in Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield.  We will be talking about grassland animals, review the letter Pp and the /p/ sound, and practice the comprehension skill main idea.  The words we, my, and like will be introduced as new high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter and phonics story “Pat the Cat” to be sent home!  PRACTICE HIGH FREQUENCY SIGHT WORDS DAILY!!!

**For Math we will work with Topic 1:  One to Five.  Take some time to practice number writing and counting sets, and be sure to review daily practice pages.  Also, review, sign, and return Topic 16 tests when sent home.

** We are currently collecting money for the classroom parties.  If you have NOT yet sent in the party money, then please send in $5.00 in an envelope with your child’s name and classroom and mark “Party Money” on the outside of the envelope.  Thank you!

**Red Ribbon Week will end on Tuesday, 10/31.  To wrap up the scheduled dress days, students may wear Pajamas on Monday, 10/30 and wear RED on Tuesday, 10/31.

**The monthly PBIS reward day will be Tuesday, 10/31.  Grades K-3 will have their reward from 12:15-1:30. The students who received 4 stamps/stickers for S-P-AR-T-Y will attend one of the following rewards:  Monster Mash—music/dancing in gym; Art Project/Cookie Decorating—in the cafeteria; Halloween Movies—in several locations and students attending may bring a beach towel or small blanket to sit on.  **Lunch for Kindergarten will be early in the morning so an extra snack may be packed!!

**Trick-or-treat will take place on Tuesday, October 31^st from 6-8 pm depending on the town.  (Students who would like to stop in at Mrs. Potts’ house for treats are welcome between 6-8 PM—519 West Oak St., Frackville! J)  With trick-or-treat approaching, we ask that students do NOT bring candy for snacks at school and limit extra candy in lunch boxes too.  Thanks for your cooperation!

**AR/Book Buddy recording sheets for October are due on Tuesday, 10/31.  Any student who reaches or exceeds the goal of 15 or more books will receive a PIZZA HUT BOOK IT coupon! 

**With the cooler weather upon us, be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and/or a hat (which can be kept in cubbies or backpacks) so that when we go outside for our 30 minute recess the students are prepared for any changes in temperature or for the lengthy time outside.  We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat.

**Monday, October 30^th will be Day 3—GUIDANCE.  **Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Tuesday, 10/31.
