Kindergarten News
Congratulations to ALL the students who earned their first DRESS DOWN day for our PBIS behavior plan. They have shown they can follow the rules and
be SAFE! This week we will be looking
for students to PARTICIPATE! If they earn 3 stamps by Thursday afternoon
(9/21), then they will earn another DRESS DOWN day for Friday, 9/22!!!
~ Our Reading story will
be Plaidypus Lost. We will be talking about how families
cooperate, we will be learning to recognize the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss,
and we will practice the comprehension skill: sequence. Watch for your Family Times newsletter to come home in
your child’s folder. Continue to read at
home, talk about story characters and setting, and recognize the letters from
Aa-Nn, as well as the high frequency words I,
am, the and little.
**Word
List 1 for “Camera Words”/ sight words, was checked last week! Check the list enclosed in your child’s
folder (PLASTIC SHEET). Please keep the list there, but use it to
study the appropriate list(s) for your child.
Lists should be checked every week or week and a half as time allows.
~In Math we will begin Topic
14. We will learn to identify and
describe 2 and 3 dimensional shapes such as; circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, cone, sphere, cube, and
cylinder. Please take some time to
review the daily practice pages that your child brings home in his/her KEEP
side of the communication folder.
~Last week we started a
Social Studies Unit—Citizenship. Our focus is on the question, “What does it
mean to be a good citizen?” Our first
lessons have been about rules and laws and our next lessons will be about good
and bad choices, being a good friend, sharing, and taking turns, working hard
and trying our best and cooperating.
Take some time to ask your child about the daily lessons and discuss what
being a good citizen looks like at home and in your community!
~Friday, September 22nd is the First Day of Autumn/Fall
and we will be starting an “APPLE”
theme and continue it through the remainder of September. We will learn about the seasons and continue
our Science observations using our apple theme. **Students are asked to bring in an apple on Monday, September 25th. The apple can be any size, color, or
kind. Each day of that week we will use
the apples for sorting, graphing, and/or tasting. It should be a sweet week!!!
~The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 5th. If interested in volunteering, please be
sure to complete and return your volunteer form that was sent home earlier in
the week. **The next Fall Festival meeting
will be held on Tuesday, September 19th @ 6:30 at Chill Out on the
Gold Star Highway, Shenandoah.
All volunteers who will be participating at the Fall Festival MUST have
all 4 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal, FBI Fingerprinting, and Mandated
Reporter Training) on file in the office.
The Fall Festival is not a PTO event, so you do not have to be a member
of the PTO to help. **Also, if you haven’t already, please try to send in $3 for the Fall
Festival to help pay for supplies and to make the day special for the children.
~ Due to the changes in
temperature inside and outside the school, some students may want to bring a
sweater or sweatshirt without a hood
to keep in their cubbies in case they feel chilly! Jackets with hoods should not be worn inside
during the school day.
