Week of September 11-15, 2017

Kindergarten Newsletter 

Wednesday, September 13th will be our first DATA DELAY day.  School will operate on a 2- hour delay.  **Please note it will be a Non-Rotation day and students will not have a scheduled Special Class on Data Delay days.
Students in grades K-3 will be receiving hearing screenings at school on Thursday, Sept. 14th.  (Please talk with your child about the importance of being quiet while waiting to be screened.)
            On Monday, we will begin our 2nd Reading story, We Are So Proud. We will work on recognizing the letters Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm. and Nn. Watch for your Family Times newsletter and take home story—Am I? to come home in your child’s book buddy bag.  Continue to read at home, talk about story characters (who the story is about) and setting (where and when the story takes place), and read the high frequency words I and am.
            **Word list 1 (I, a, and, the to) will be checked during the upcoming week by Friday, 9/15 and if all words are read correctly, then Word List 2 will be tested next.  If more time is needed with list one, then List 1 words will be checked again the following week before List 2.  Continue to practice sight words daily!!
            In Math we will finish working with Topic 13: Sorting, Classifying, Counting, and Categorizing Datta.. Boys and girls should identify same and different by attributes of color, size, shape and kind, sort objects by one or more attributes, sort the same set different ways, and solve problems by thinking logically, read and make real and picture graphs.   Boys and girls have also begun learning Number Writing Verses to help with writing numbers correctly.  Check out the “verses” and practice with your child.
            For Science we have begun to work with Chapter 1 The Nature of Science.  We will be discussing how we share what we learn, tools we use to observe, and will answer the Big Question – “What is science?”  Students will be learning the following vocabulary words:  science, observe, and senses.
            Boys and girls have been doing a Super Job with their AR “Book Buddy” books and bags.  Remember, any books your child and you read together at home can be recorded on the monthly reading log enclosed in your child’s “Book Buddy” bag.  **Also, please be sure to complete the log when the book enclosed is read.  Some books are being returned without being recorded. 
            The PTO school store will open on Monday, September 11th.   Kindergarten students will be able to shop on a MONDAYS from 8:20-8:45. Students are asked to shop ONLY on this day of the week and at this time.  Please do not put school store money in your child’s folder.  (Teachers will NOT see it until after the store closes.)  **Students should keep it separate in backpacks where THEY can reach it easily for shopping BEFORE homeroom.
**Parents and Guardians interested in joining the PTO should sign up and pay $5.00 as soon as possible.  There will be a PTO meeting on Monday, Sept. 11th in the cafeteria beginning at 6:30.  All are invited and encouraged to attend.  **The required clearances must be on file in the office before you are allowed into the school to help as a PTO member.
Picture Day is Tuesday, September 12th.  Money is due at the time of pictures and SCHOOL DRESS CODE is to be followed on picture day!  ALL students will be photographed whether or not pictures are being purchased.  Kindergarten will be photographed early in the morning so be on time to school!  **Also, if you DO NOT plan to purchase pictures, please send a note stating you do not want to buy pictures, so we are not looking for an order/money envelope that morning.  IF POSSIBLE PLEASE RETURN ORDER /MONEY ENVELOPES BY MONDAY, SEPT.  11th, SO WE ARE READY TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED FIRST THING TUESDAY MORNING! Thank you!!!
The school-wide PBIS behavior program will begin on Monday, Sept. 11th.  This week we will focus on being SAFE!!  Encourage your child to follow the rules the S-P-A-R-T-Y way!!!

**Friday, September 15th will be a Spartan Dress Down Day.  Students are asked to bring a $1 donation if participating.

            Monday, Sept. 11th will be Day 10, Art; Tuesday, Sept. 12th will be Day 1, Computers; Wednesday, Sept. 13th will be a NON- rotation day; Thursday, Sept. 14th will be Music and Friday, Sept. 15th will be Guidance
