Kindergarten News

**The “I’m a Reader” forms, for those who participated, NEED to be returned to the teacher no later than Tuesday, March 21^st.

**There will be NO WRITTEN HOMEWORK this week.  The class has reached the third goal for our “bean jar” and the students voted for a homework-free week as their reward.  (But don’t forget to practice high frequency sight words and continue to read AR/Book Buddy books!)

**Report cards for the 2^nd trimester will be sent home on Monday, March 20^th.  Report cards are to stay home, but the ENVELOPE NEEDS TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, then please contact Mrs. Potts.

As a dental health follow-up, the Tooth Fairy will visit Kindergarten and First Grade at NSE on Tuesday, March 21^st to teach us how to take care of our teeth!  Be sure to ask your child about her visit!!

For Reading we will begin Unit 5: Going Places.  Our first story will be Max Takes the Train by Rosemary Wells.  It is an animal fantasy story and we will be discussing realism and fantasy.  Please practice all sight words daily!  Since we will be working with the letter Jj and its sound as in joke, students are asked to tell a kid’s JOKE this week.  Jokes can be written down or memorized and should be practiced at home before they are told to the class.  Jokes can be shared Thursday or Friday---you choose the day!

For Math we will begin Topic 9; Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10.  Students will learn different ways to make 4 through 10 and write number sentences to show these different ways.   Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.  Be sure to review, sign and return Topic 8 test when it is enclosed in RETURN.

Kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018, school year will continue this week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

**Kindergarten Graduation Photos will be taken on Thursday, April 20^th.  **Order forms will be sent home the week of April 3^rd.  Purchasing a package is optional however EVERY STUDENT will have his/her picture taken.  For anyone interested in purchasing a package, order forms and payment will be due by Wednesday, April 19^th.  **Every student needs to wear a white collared shirt.  

**The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 8^th and 9^th.  Our class’ theme basket is “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received the following donations; A Night at the Museum DVD, a Pizza Place token/card, and a monetary donation.  Donations are due to the teacher the week ending March 31. There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the note sent home with suggestions and ideas.

Monday, March 20^th is Day 8—Art.  Be sure to wear sneakers and gym attire on Tuesday, 3/21 and bring library books for exchange on Friday, 3/24.
