Week of February 23-27, 2015

Kindergarten News 

                       

~For Reading we will read the story, My Lucky Day, by Keiko Kasza.  It is an animal fantasy (fiction) story and we will focus on the comprehension skill cause and effect.  This week we will review the /l/ sound and connect it with the letter Ll.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter!  **Also, don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!!

            ~In Math we will begin Topic 7: Addition.  Students will learn to join two groups and tell how many there are altogether.  They will learn how to use the plus sign and the equal sign and learn about addition sentences.  Please review daily workmats/lessons and review, sign, and return Topic 6 Test. 

            ~The BrainshowMania program has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 25^th.  (Kindergarten will attend from 1:00-1:45.)

`           ~Friday, February 27^th is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the next two weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday to read the book, Great Day for Up! and to do a follow up activity with the students.  We will have a guest reader and may also work with Mrs. Selgrade’s 3^rd grade class with the book “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”!  Be sure to ask your child about their day!

            ~The theme for our class’ basket at the PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be “A Night with the Family”.  Please see the note enclosed in your child’s folder for details. 

~Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 2^nd and continue through Friday, March 6^th.  **Be sure to watch for additional notes that will be sent home in your child’s folder this week.

 ~Toothbrush charts will be due back at the start of March.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.  Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great! 

~Kindergarten registration for the 2014-2015 school year will be held during the week of March 9-13.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District. Students must be the age of five by July 1st, 2015 to be eligible for kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

Monday, February 23^rd will be Day 3—Library, on the special classes’ schedule.  Students will need Library books on Monday so be sure to pack them for exchange and Wednesday, February 25^th will be gym class so students will need to wear sneakers!!!
