Week of March 17-21, 2014

Kindergarten News
               This week we will be learning the letter Xx as in fox and x-ray.  Students will go on a treasure hunt throughout the building to find the “X” that marks the spot of their hidden treasure!  How exciting!!!  There will be NO Show and Tell.  **Word List 17 test will be Thursday, March 20th.   Please practice daily!

               In Reading we will begin an informational text titled If You Could Go to Antarctica, by author Fay Robinson.  We will practice the comprehension skill classify and categorize.  Please practice high frequency word cards.  We will be adding the new cards, here, go, and from this week.

               For Math we will continue with Topic 9; Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10.  Students will decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, will find the number for any number from 1-9 that makes 10 when added to the given number, and will classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.  Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.

               On Monday, March 17th we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day—Don’t forget to wear something GREEN.  It could be your lucky day!!!

               Scholastic book orders for March are due on or by Tuesday, March 18th for anyone interested in ordering!  Orders can be given to the teacher or placed online at scholastic.com.

               Thursday, March 20th is NSE Music and Art in our School Night from 6:30-8:00 @ NSE.  All are welcome to attend!

               **The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 12th and 13thOur class’ theme basket will be “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received; A Cake mix, popcorn and bags, two kinds of puzzles, a taco kit, jar of salsa, M&Ms, a card game, Connect game, and 3 DVDs.  Donations are due to the teacher by the week ending March 21st.    If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!!  You can refer to the orange note sent home previously with suggestions and ideas!!  Thank you in advance for your support!!

               Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 3rd(There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes with portrait package information will be sent home in the near future.   **All students will be photographed for the class photo and all students will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown. 

               We are planning our Kindergarten fieldtrip for Wednesday, May 28. We will explore the Pioneer Tunnel in Ashland. If you are a homeroom parent and active with PTO commitments, please send a note if you think you would like to attend the fieldtrip.  (You must be on the approved PTO list and meet the required commitment points as stated in the bi laws to chaperone the field trip!)

               Thursday, March 20th is officially the First Day of Spring!!  J We will try to get outside for recess as much as possible, so please check the weather forecasts and temperatures to be sure to dress your child appropriately for a ½ hour of recess. 

               --Happy ½ birthday to Matthew Mahmod!  We celebrated his August 14th birthday on Friday.  Also, best wishes to Jadelin Stitzer !  Her 6th birthday will be Monday, March 17th!

                              Monday (3/17/14) will be DAY 1 on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need library books for exchange on Wednesday, March 19th and sneakers and gym attire on Friday, March 21st.
