  • This week in Phonics we will be learning the two sounds ofdigraph oo as in the words hook and tooth. Please review digraphs ck, sh, and voiced and unvoiced th. We will not have Show and Tell.

· For Reading we will start a new story titled, Mayday!

Mayday! A Coast Guard Rescue by Chris Demarest. We will be talking about Emergency

Transportation and work on the comprehension skill cause and effect. We will also be

reviewing the letter sound /x/. Watch for your new Family Times

newsletter!

  • In Math we will be finishing up with Chapter 12: Subtraction. Students will “take away” to find out “how many are left?” Review practice pages that come home in your child’s folder.

  • The end of the year testing for kindergarten will begin this week. Each child will be tested by the Reading teachers. Children will need to write a dictated sentence, recognize, write, and give the sound of every letter of the alphabet, be fluent in phonemic segmentation, be able to provide a word that begins with every letter of the alphabet, and be able to write as many words correctly in 10 minutes. Please try at home to work on some of the areas to be tested to ensure that your child is fully prepared.

  • Tuesday is the Field Trip to Lake Tobias, Halifax. In case of bad weather and you are unsure if the trip is Tuesday, May 11th, please call the school office after 7:00am to find out the status of the trip. All students and chaperones should arrive to school at regular time (between 8:25-8:40 am) Please be prompt since we will leave as soon as the buses arrive to school. Remember students and chaperones need a bagged lunch with a drink. Students’ names should be on the bag too. Students need to dress appropriately—NO sandals or flip flops allowed, WEAR SNEAKERS and blue NSE T-shirts. Sunscreen should be applied at home as needed.

  • This week will be the last time our class will borrow books at the library for this school year. (All books will be returned to the library the week of May 18th.) ** Since Day 6 is Tuesday, our field trip day, we will collect books on Monday and try to get new books on Wednesday. If we need to use the rain date, then we will get new books on our scheduled day of Tuesday, May 11th.

  • The last Scholastic Book Order is due on Wednesday, May 12th for anyone interested in ordering this month. Thank you to all who have participated this year. Happy Reading!!!

  • Monday May 10th is Day 5 on the special classes’ schedule. (Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Thursday, May 13th- Day 2)

Happy Mother’s Day to all

the moms, grandmas, and great grandmas! Enjoy your special day!
