~This week we will be working on the letter Dd as in dog and dinosaur. There will be NO Show and Tell, but in its place we will be giving our dinosaur reports. Please follow your classroom schedule! **Details and information about the reports were sent home in your child’s folder.

~In Math we will be starting Chapter 9: Measurement. We will learn to measure how long objects are, how heavy different objects are, and compare how much different containers hold. We will also continue to practice money using pennies, nickels, and dimes, and telling time to the hour.

~Monday, March 1st is an ACT 80 Day. There will be NO SCHOOL for students, only teachers. Enjoy the long weekend and take some time to work on your dinosaur reports! School will reopen on Tuesday, March 2nd and it will be Day 5 on the special classes’ rotation schedule. Students will need library books for exchange on Wednesday, March 3rd---Day 6 and sneakers and gym attire on Friday, March 5th---Day 2.

~Tuesday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We will be reading some great books and making some fun things to go along with the stories. On Friday, March 5th some students from Bloomsburg University will be visiting our classrooms to read Dr. Seuss books and do a follow up activity with the students. (This has been rescheduled from Friday, February 26th!) Be sure to ask your child about their visit!

~On Thursday, March 4th, author Patricia Herber will be at NSE to do presentations to grades K-4. Mrs. Herber is a retired teacher from Pine Grove. She currently has one book published. It is a book of poems called Butterflies, Bears, and Other Poems for Children. After her presentations we will send book order forms for her book home.

~Toothbrush charts are due back this week. Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts. Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist every 6 months to keep your smile looking great!

~Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools. It will be starting on Monday, March 1st and continue through Friday, March 5th. Be sure to read the additional notes that were sent in your child’s folder. **Teacher Ads will be found in the classified section Monday through Friday and the yellow “I’m a Reader” contracts will need to be returned the following week.
