Kindergarten News

· This week in Phonics we will be learning the consonant letter Zz as in zebra and zoo. Show & Tell will resume this week. Please follow your schedule!

· We will be finishing the book Little Panda in Reading and will begin the book Little Quack by Lauren Thompson. It will be an animal fantasy story. The comprehension skill we will target is “plot”, or the what happens part of a story. Watch for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder!

**As part of our story Little Panda the boys and girls watched a Panda Cam from the San Diego Zoo. If you would like to check it out you could go to: http://www.sandiegozoo.org/pandacam/

· In Math, we will continue to work on Chapter 7 and count to 100 using a hundred square. Please practice at home counting orally to 100 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s and review ordinal numbers, as well as, even and odd numbers.

· Since we are half way through Kindergarten the teachers are asking that each student practice tying his/her shoes. This is a skill that we would like to see your child master before first grade. Remember, Practice Makes Perfect!

· Just a reminder: Students need to follow the school dress code and students may only dress in gym attire on their scheduled gym day.

· Homeroom parents have begun planning for the Valentine’s Day party, so please send in your child’s party money as soon as possible. (We have asked for $4.00 to cover the second half of the year parties.)

· Wednesday, February 3rd is our tentative 100th day of school! We will be planning a celebration. Practice counting from 0-100 and watch for a 100th day newsletter with more information about our celebration.

· Congratulations to all students who successfully completed their United States’ reports! It was a fun and educational way to learn about some of the states in our country. Thank you to all the parents who helped “prepare” the children for their first oral report.

· Report cards were sent home on Friday, January 22nd. Please sign and return as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns or request a conference please contact the teacher @ 874-3661 Ext. 3245 or @ apotts@northschuylkill.net

Monday, January 25th will be Day 4. (Students will need library books for Day 6.)

**FYI: We did not have our Pizza Party on Wednesday, January 20th due to a scheduling problem. We will try to reschedule it within the next few weeks.
