Week of November 13-17, 2017

Kindergarten News
**In Reading we will begin the new story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will be working on the short /i/ sound as in inch, igloo, and iguana.  Watch for the new Family Times and Phonics Reader to be sent home.  Continue to practice the high frequency words.
**In Math we will continue working on Topic 2:  Comparing and Ordering numbers 0-5.  Students should be practicing writing numbers from 0-5 and making numbers in different ways.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.
**Friday, 11/17 will be a dress down day to honor our Veterans.  Participating students are to donate one or more items from the list that was sent home on Wed. 11/8 for care packages!  If your child does not bring a donation, he/she should not dress down.  Thank you in advance for your participation. J
**We will begin preparing for “Thanksgiving”.  During the next two weeks, students will learn about the first Thanksgiving, will make pilgrim and Native American/Indian costumes, and will begin to learn a poem or song for the holiday.  We will make a Thanksgiving bracelet and will also discuss being “thankful”.  The students will even get to use a Native American name for a day!
**The 1st Trimester will end on Tues. November 21st.  Report cards are scheduled to be sent home on Friday, Dec. 8th.
**Thursday, November 22nd will be an early dismissal day @ 12:00.  Students who earn 4 stamps for their PBIS card will also be rewarded on 11/22.  Encourage S-P-AR-T-Y behavior!!!  PLEASE NOTE--THIS WILL BE A NON-ROTATION DAY--no special class!
