Week of October 2-6, 2017

Kindergarten News
·       Congratulations to ALL the students who have earned their third DRESS DOWN day for our PBIS behavior plan.  They have shown they can follow the rules and ACT RESPECTFUL  Next week we will be looking for students to show TEAMWORK!  If they earn 3 stamps by Thursday afternoon (10/5), then they will earn another DRESS DOWN day for next Friday!!!
·       We will be starting our 5th story for Reading, Smash! Crash!  Watch for your Family Times newsletter to come home on Monday.  Our focus will be on the story’s character.  We will be working with the consonant letter Mm and the beginning and final sound /m/ in words.  Continue to read at home and practice the high frequency words, practice rhyming and counting syllables in words and identifying the letters from Aa-Zz. Your child should be able to read the little readers that come home on day 2 of the new story!
·       For Math, we will work with Topic 15; Position and Location of Shapes.  Be sure to review daily practice pages and review the positional words/concepts inside, outside, in front of, behind, next to, above, below, on, left, and right.  Please review, sign, and return Topic 14 Tests as they come home in RETURN.
·       New October “AR” Book Buddy recording sheets are enclosed in your child’s bag.  Any student who reads15 or more books will receive a monthly treat!  Congratulations to all the students who met and/or exceeded their September goal!  (Don’t forget library books can also be recorded on the recording sheets.)

Upcoming events and reminders:
            ~Wear a BLUE Shirt on Monday, 10/2 for BLUE SHIRT DAY to signify the importance of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month and DRESS DOWN for free.
            --The monthly PTO meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 2nd @ 6:30 in the NSE cafeteria.  All are invited and encouraged to attend!  ** PTO Memberships are still being accepted.  If interested in joining, please contact Heather Hendricks @ 570-449-2458 or Alexandra Trexler @ 570-875-7313.  Centiole’s Pizza Fundraiser orders are due by Friday, Oct 6.  PICK-UP date for gift cards is Monday, Oct. 23.
--October Scholastic Book Orders are due by Wednesday, October 4th.  (Orders can be placed online with the classroom code GJXGV or sent to the teacher in an envelope)
            ~The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 5th.  Students may dress down in gym clothes or wear regular dress code clothing.  No Jeans are allowed!!  **Anyone who has not yet sent in his/her $3.00 please do so ASAP!  Thank You!
~Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for Thursday, October 12. 
~Diane Rowland, Prevention Services Coordinator for the Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Program, will visit on October 16th to provide basic drug and alcohol awareness information.  **If you wish to EXCLUDE your child from participating, please send a note.
~The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the library starting Monday, October 16th.   Details will be sent home within the next two weeks. 
~ The Kindergarten Field Trip will be Friday, October 20th. Students will visit Rohrbach’s Farm in Catawissa and take an educational tour of the farm, go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin, and have time to play in play land!  Students may wear jeans or sweatpants with the field trip shirt (coming soon).  Please be on time for school and dress for the weather.   Students do not need any money for the trip.  (**Just a reminder for chaperones---$10 is due by Fri. Oct 6.  Checks payable to NSE PTO.)

Monday, October 2nd will be Day 4--Gym.  **Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Monday, 10/2.
