Week of April 3-7, 2017

Kindergarten News
For Reading we will continue with the next story in Unit 5 Trucks Roll!  It is a non-fiction, rhyming story and we will be talking about forms of transportation.  The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is compare and contrast and we will work with the initial and medial short vowel sound /u/.  A new Family Times newsletter will be sent home on Monday.  Take time to practice sight word flashcards, especially what, said, and was!!!
United States’ reports will begin on Tuesday, April 4th!  **Check the date on the top of your child’s report pages and be sure to have him/her practice presenting the facts to you at home.  It will be fun to learn about many of our Nifty, Fifty United States!
In Math, we will begin Topic 10, Composing Numbers 11-19.   Practice making numbers 11-19 and continue to review addition and subtraction. Take some time to review daily work mats.  **Be sure to sign, review, and return Topic 9 test when it comes home.

The April PTO meeting will be held on Monday, April 3rd and it will start @ 6:30.  All are invited and encouraged to attend!!

Students in Grades 3-6 will be taking the PSSA tests next week.  Kindergarten’s schedule will be switched around T-F, 4/4-4/7.  Special classes will be 9:00-9:45 instead of 2:00-2:45. Please talk to your child about being quiet while in the hallways during testing days!!

Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 20th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes will be sent home with portrait package information next week.  If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Wednesday, April 19th in your child’s folder.  (Cash or checks made payable to PSP.)  **All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap
**FYI:  Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd @ 1:00 PM in the high school auditorium

Thank you to ALL who generously donated to our class’ Chinese Auction basket/bin for the PTO Spring Fling Auction coming up on April 8-April 9.  Our “A Night with the Family” theme is turning out GREAT! (A list of items included in our basket/bin will be sent home soon.)  Be sure to take a chance or more on winning it!  Remember, the Kindergarten class with the most tickets gets an Ice Cream Party!!!

The last round of DIBELS testing will begin in a few weeks.  Students will be tested on many of the same skills as they were at the mid-year testing.  Review blending sounds to read nonsense words and break words apart into the individual sounds, or phonemes and practice naming letters.  Try to improve speed and accuracy for a 1-minute time for each skill.  **Practice pages will be sent home for practice.

Monday, April 3rd will be Day 3—ART class on the special classes’ schedule. **Students will need sneakers and gym attire on Tuesday, April 4th for gym class and library books for exchange on Friday, April 7th.
