Friday, April 28 will be the monthly Spartan
Dress Down Day. Students can wear jeans or sweats and a
Spartan shirt with a paid $1 donation. **Please note the change from Friday,
4/21!
**If any parent would like to be a guest
reader in our classroom, then please contact Mrs. Potts with a date and time
you would be available and she will work on scheduling a visit.
Clearances are not required to be a guest reader. The month of May is rather open and there
are morning and afternoon times available.
Keep in mind our only day off is Memorial Day Monday and the last day of
school is a full day, Wednesday, May 31st.
In Reading we will start a new story titled, This Is the Way We Go to School. It
is a fiction story about children around the world. We will work with the letter sounds /y/ and /kw/
for the letters Yy and Qq. The
comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is drawing conclusions. Watch
for your new Family Times newsletter
and have your child practice the Words to
Read!
In Math, we will finish with Topic 11 and
will begin Topic 12 Measurement. We will be comparing objects by length,
height, capacity, and weight. Please review daily practice pages!
April AR/Book Buddy” recording sheets are due by
Friday, April 28th! (goal is 15+ books)
Yearbook order forms were sent home last
week. If you would like one, then please send in your payment and order form
to reserve a copy. (There may not be extras!!)
DIBELS testing for the end-of-the-year will
begin soon. Please review letter naming,
segmenting, and nonsense words. The time
for each is 1 minute!
Saturday,
April 22nd is Earth Day. Earth day is a day to remember
to take care of our planet by keeping it clean.
We have been talking about the environment and discussing the important
rule that tells us to “reduce, reuse, and recycle” and how following this rule
can make a difference. Perhaps as a
family you could plan a special project in your neighborhood!
Students in Grades 3-6 will continue taking
the PSSA tests during the week. Kindergarten’s
schedule will be switched around T-Th, 4/25-4/27. Special classes will be 9:00-9:45, instead of 2:00-2:45. Please
talk to your child about being quiet while in the hallways during testing
days!!
In May the
Reading teachers will begin the end-of-the-year testing with each Kindergarten
child. Children will need to write a
dictated sentence or two, recognize, write, and give the sound of every letter
of the alphabet, be able to provide a word that begins with every letter sound,
and be able to write as many words correctly in 10 minutes. Please review at home!
Kindergarten
Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 1:00 pm in the NS
High School Auditorium. Specific
details about parking, seating, etc. will be sent home closer to the date. Due to limited seating, each Kindergarten
student will be limited to 5 tickets.
**If a small child (non-school age) is going to sit on an adult’s lap,
they will not need a ticket. **Your
Kindergarten child is not part of the count. No one will be admitted to Graduation
without a ticket. Graduation
tickets will be sent home closer to Graduation. **If
tickets are misplaced, we will not be able to replace them.
FYI: Our class participated in the “A
Child’s View” writing for the Republican Herald newspaper. The entries and a class photo are to be
published in a supplement on Thursday, April 27th. Students answered the question, “What do you
want to be when you grow up and why?” Be
sure to check it out.
**Monday, April 24h is Day 2 –Library, so be sure to pack library books for exchange. Students will need sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday, April 26th.
