Week of January 30 - February 3, 2017

Kindergarten News

**For Reading we will begin Unit 4: Let’s Go Exploring.  The first story is Rooster’s Off to See the World by Eric Carle.  It is an animal fantasy and we will be reviewing the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will work with initial /h/ sound for the letter Hh.  Review high frequency sight words daily!

**In Math we will move on to Topic 7: Understanding Addition.                      (Review, sign, and return Topic 6 test.)

**Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100^th day is just several school days away!!!  On Wednesday, February 1^st students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old! (**Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100^th day will be moved to the next school day.)

**Thursday, February 2^nd is Groundhog’s Day.  Check to see if Phil sees his shadow and whether there will be 6 more weeks of winter or an early spring!

**Kindergarten will have a Luau for the January behavior reward on Friday, February 3^rd.  Students will be allowed to wear a tropical printed shirt or dress.  Dress code bottoms are expected. Sandals and flip flops are NOT to be worn!! 

**February is National Children’s Dental Health Month.  Please encourage your child to brush his/her teeth at least twice a day and to practice good dental health habits.  **Look for the special “toothbrush chart” and dental health note enclosed in your child’s folder (Start coloring the chart on Wed., 2/1/17)

**February recording sheets for our AR “Book Buddy” bags will be sent home on Tuesday, 1/31.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.  January Pizza Hut reward coupons will be enclosed in your child’s folder too. 

**On Friday, February 10^th we will be having our Valentine’s party from 1:30-3:00.  Valentines will be “delivered” the day of the party, so be sure to bring them to school before then!

Monday January 30^th will be Day 4 – gym.  Be sure to wear sneakers and gym attire.   Library will be on Thursday, February 2^nd, so pack books for exchange on 2/2.
