Week of January 23-27, 2017

Kindergarten News

            For Reading this week we will read the story, The Lion and the Mouse. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.  We will review the short /o/ sound in words and continue to work with the high frequency words; they, of, and you.   Be sure to practice sight word flashcards often and watch for the new Family Times news!

             Just a reminder:  January AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets will be due on Tuesday, January 31^st.  The goal for the month is 15 books.  Any student who reads and records 15 or more books will receive a Pizza Hut reward coupon.  Happy Reading!!

            In Math we will continue with Topic 6; Numbers to 100.  Continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s and writing numbers to 20.  Take some time to review daily practice pages!

            Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100^th day is just eight school days away!!!  On Wednesday, February 1^st students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old! **Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100^th day will be moved to the next day.  (Please watch for a 100^th day newsletter enclosed in your child’s folder next week!)

            January’s behavior reward will be a LUAU on Friday, February 3^rd.  Students will be permitted to wear a brightly colored/tropical printed/Hawaiian shirt or dress.  No shorts or sandals will be allowed!  Dress code will apply for bottoms!  A lei will be provided!!  Boys and girls will rotate through 3 rooms for a snack, music & limbo, and an art activity. 

                     The Valentine’s Day party will be held on Friday, February 10^th from 1:30-3:00.   **A Valentine’s Class List will be sent home to help you prepare valentines for the party.  (PARENT HELPERS WILL BE CONTACTED SOON WITH DETAILS)

 Monday, January 23^rd will be Day 9—Gym Class. **Boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Monday, 1/23.   Library exchange will be Thursday, January 26^th, so please be sure to pack library books on 1/26.
