Week of January 16-20, 2017

Kindergarten News
School will be CLOSED for students on Monday, January 16th—Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Teachers have a full day IN-SERVICE scheduled.
For Reading we will continue with Unit 3 and the story Then and Now.  It is a nonfiction book and we will talk about the comprehension strategy “draw conclusions”.  We will also work with the initial and medial short /o/ sound and the letter Oo.   Watch for your new Family Times news and practice new high frequency sight words; you, of, and they!

In Math, we will be beginning Topic 6: Numbers to 100.  Review counting, reading, and writing numbers 0-20 and ordering numbers forward and backward.  Also, practice counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s to 100.    **Be sure to review, sign, and return Topic 5 Test when it comes home.
Wednesday, January 18th (weather permitting) will be our 90th day of school and we will be halfway through Kindergarten! WOW!  We will celebrate for the 100th day tentatively on Feb. 1st.   More details will be coming home closer to the date.
Just a reminder: January AR/Book Buddy recording sheets will be due on Tuesday, January 31st.  The goal for the month is 15 books.  Any student who reads and records 15 or more books will receive a Pizza Hut reward coupon and a treat!  Happy Reading!
All staff and students can wear a Spartan shirt with jeans or sweatpants on Friday, January 20th for the monthly Dress Down Day.  The suggested donation is $1.00.

Tuesday, January 17th will be Day 5--Music.  **Students will need library books on Thursday, January 19th.
