Week of November 7-11, 2016

Kindergarten News
**In Reading we will read the book Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.  We will be discussing hibernation and will learn to differentiate between real and make believe.  The words we, my, and like will be reviewed. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter and phonics story to be sent home!  Continue to review ALL letters and sounds and practice with letter tiles on Wednesday nights.  To celebrate our letter Cc for this week, we will all be our favorite Big, Red Dog—Clifford on Wednesday, November 9th.  If possible students should try to wear a red shirt and Mrs. Potts will supply the big, red ears and black nose!

**For Math we will begin Topic 3:  Numbers 6-10.  Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways.  Students should be practicing writing numbers from 0-5 correctly and continue counting by 1’s to 100.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.  Please  Review, sign, and RETURN Topic 2 Test.

**We will continue learning about the weather for Science and will begin to learn about the upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving, for Social Studies.

**Ms. Clarissa Geary, Director of Education, Training and Volunteer Services for SARCC, will be presenting a Personal Body Safety Program to the class on Wednesday, November 16th.  This message encourages healthy decision-making and communication.  Should you wish to EXCLUDE your child from participating, then please indicate that with a note to the school office.

**Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 6th.  Remember to turn your clocks back 1 hour.  (**As the student handbook states, once the clocks change, students are NO longer able to wear shorts to school.  When the clocks move forward in spring then students can begin wearing shorts (weather permitting) to school again.)  FALL BACK…SPRING FORWARD

**Scholastic book orders for this month are due by Monday, November 14th for anyone interested in ordering.  Orders can be placed online at scholastic.com or can be sent to school with your child!  **Make note if any orders are gifts for Christmas!

**Tuesday, November 8th is Election Day and our school will be participating in a “Mock Election” on Monday, November 7th.  Students and staff will be voting for either Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump.  We will be sure to share our results!!

**This week NSE welcomed a new principal Ms. Missy Whitaker.  Mrs. Hansbury introduced her to our class on Tuesday.

**On Thursday, November 10th the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department will be visiting NSE and all Kindergarten students will be fingerprinted.   Families will receive the prints to keep for their records.  (Hopefully no one will need to use them but we think it’s a nice safety precaution!)

**To wrap-up our Fire Prevention lessons, a local fire company will visit Kindergarten at the school on Friday, November 11th.

FYI:  The NS Student Council is sponsoring the Feed-a-Friend campaign in our school district.  The campaign kicked off during Homecoming Sprit Week and will continue until Wed. November 16th.  We are collecting both non-perishable food and monetary donations to help less fortunate people in Schuylkill County enjoy a holiday dinner.  Student council representatives will be taking our donations to the Salvation Army in Pottsville on Thurs. 11/17.
JUST A REMINDER that Wednesday, November 9th is our monthly 2-hour data delay day.  It will be a NON-ROTATION day for special classes.

**Monday, November 7th will be Day 7—LIBRARY BOOK EXCHANGE, so pack library books on 11/7.  **Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Thursday, 11/10.
