Kindergarten News
~ Our next Reading
story will be Plaidypus Lost. We will be talking about how families
cooperate, we will be learning to recognize the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss,
and we will practice the comprehension skill: sequence. Watch for
your Family Times newsletter to come
home in your child’s folder.
Continue to read at home, talk about story characters and setting, and
recognize the letters from Aa-Nn, as well as the high frequency words I, am, the and little.
**Word List 1 for “Camera Words”/ sight
words, was checked this past week!
Check the list enclosed in your child’s folder (PLASTIC SHEET). Please
keep the list there, but use it to study the appropriate list(s) for your
child. Lists should be checked
every week or week and a half as time allows.
~DIBELS information and student results are
enclosed in your child’s folder.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact the
teacher. Keep in mind the first results are a baseline and we will be working on
the skills at school. Monthly
practice will also be sent home for extra review.
~In Math we will
be testing Topic 14, and we will be starting Topic 15: Position and Location of Shapes. We will continue to
identify and describe 2 and 3 dimensional shapes such as; circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, cone, sphere, cube, and
cylinder. Please take some
time to review the daily practice pages that your child brings home in his/her
KEEP side of the communication folder.
Also, please review, sign and return Topic 14 Test later in the week.
~Students
borrowed their first school library books on Thursday, September 15th. The books will be exchanged on Day 7
of the Special Classes’ rotation
schedule , Thursday, 9/22. **Library books should NOT be kept in your
child’s AR/Book Buddy bag.
However, any library books read may be recorded on the monthly Book
Buddy recording sheet. Happy

~Students have been doing a terrific job with completing
HOMEWORK and bringing it back to school on time. Thank you to the parents for all your cooperation and
support with homework!!
~Thursday,
September 22nd is the First Day of Autumn/Fall and we will be
starting an “APPLE” theme and
continue it through the remainder of September. We will learn about the seasons and continue our
Science observations using our apple theme. **Students are asked to bring in an apple on Monday, September 26th. The apple can be any size, color, or
kind. Each day of that week we
will use the apples for sorting, graphing, and/or tasting. We will also kick-off the theme by
celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday on Monday, September 26th! It should be a sweet week!!!
~The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held
on Thursday, October 6th. If interested in volunteering, please be sure
to complete and return your volunteer form that was sent home Thursday, Sept.
15th. **The
next Fall Festival meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27th @
6:30 at the Mineshaft in Ashland.
All volunteers who will be participating at the Fall Festival MUST have
all 4 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal, FBI Fingerprinting, and Mandated
Reporter Training) on file in the office.
The Fall Festival is not a PTO event, so you do not have to be a member
of the PTO to help.
~ Due to the
changes in temperature inside and outside the school, some students may want to
bring a sweater or sweatshirt without a
hood to keep in their cubbies in case they feel chilly! Jackets with hoods should not be worn
inside during the school day.
~The annual
Children’s Book Drive (co-sponsored by the Republican-Herald and Child
Development, Inc.) is now underway.
All donations should be suitable for children up to 12 years old. Deadline for books is Monday, October 3rd.
~Parents and
Guardians interested in joining the PTO should sign up and send $3.00 for
yearly dues ASAP. The required
clearances must be on file in the office before you are allowed into the school
to help as a PTO member.
Monday, Sept. 19th will be
Day 4- GYM, on our special classes’ schedule. **Boys and girls will need sneakers for gym class on Monday,
9/19. Library
books will be exchanged on Thursday,
September 22nd so be sure to pack them in your backpacks for 9/22.
