Kindergarten News
~ Our next Reading story will be Plaidypus Lost.  We will be talking about how families cooperate, we will be learning to recognize the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss, and we will practice the comprehension skill: sequence.  Watch for your Family Times newsletter to come home in your child’s folder.  Continue to read at home, talk about story characters and setting, and recognize the letters from Aa-Nn, as well as the high frequency words I, am, the and little.
**Word List 1 for “Camera Words”/ sight words, was checked this past week!  Check the list enclosed in your child’s folder (PLASTIC SHEET).  Please keep the list there, but use it to study the appropriate list(s) for your child.  Lists should be checked every week or week and a half as time allows.
~DIBELS information and student results are enclosed in your child’s folder.  If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact the teacher.  Keep in mind the first results are a baseline and we will be working on the skills at school.  Monthly practice will also be sent home for extra review.
~In Math we will be testing Topic 14, and we will be starting Topic 15: Position and Location of Shapes. We will continue to identify and describe 2 and 3 dimensional shapes such as; circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, cone, sphere, cube, and cylinder.  Please take some time to review the daily practice pages that your child brings home in his/her KEEP side of the communication folder.  Also, please review, sign and return Topic 14 Test later in the week.
~Students borrowed their first school library books on Thursday, September 15th.  The books will be exchanged on Day 7 of  the Special Classes’ rotation schedule , Thursday, 9/22.  **Library books should NOT be kept in your child’s AR/Book Buddy bag.  However, any library books read may be recorded on the monthly Book Buddy recording sheet.  Happy Reading!!
~Students have been doing a terrific job with completing HOMEWORK and bringing it back to school on time.  Thank you to the parents for all your cooperation and support with homework!!
~Thursday, September 22nd is the First Day of Autumn/Fall and we will be starting an “APPLE” theme and continue it through the remainder of September.   We will learn about the seasons and continue our Science observations using our apple theme. **Students are asked to bring in an apple on Monday, September 26th.  The apple can be any size, color, or kind.  Each day of that week we will use the apples for sorting, graphing, and/or tasting.  We will also kick-off the theme by celebrating Johnny Appleseed’s birthday on Monday, September 26th!  It should be a sweet week!!!
~The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 6th.    If interested in volunteering, please be sure to complete and return your volunteer form that was sent home Thursday, Sept. 15th.  **The next Fall Festival meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27th @ 6:30 at the Mineshaft in Ashland.  All volunteers who will be participating at the Fall Festival MUST have all 4 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal, FBI Fingerprinting, and Mandated Reporter Training) on file in the office.  The Fall Festival is not a PTO event, so you do not have to be a member of the PTO to help.
~ Due to the changes in temperature inside and outside the school, some students may want to bring a sweater or sweatshirt without a hood to keep in their cubbies in case they feel chilly!  Jackets with hoods should not be worn inside during the school day.
~The annual Children’s Book Drive (co-sponsored by the Republican-Herald and Child Development, Inc.) is now underway.  All donations should be suitable for children up to 12 years old.  Deadline for books is Monday, October 3rd.
~Parents and Guardians interested in joining the PTO should sign up and send $3.00 for yearly dues ASAP.  The required clearances must be on file in the office before you are allowed into the school to help as a PTO member.
