Kindergarten
Newsletter
We have finished our second week of school and most
of the students are adjusting very well!
We
are using the behavior calendar at the back of your child’s communication
folder. Check the calendar daily
to see what “kind” of day your child had at school and discuss any
concerns/notes with him/her.
On
Monday, we will begin our 2nd Reading story, We Are So Proud. We will work on recognizing the letters Ff, Gg,
Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm. and Nn. Watch for your Family Times newsletter and take home story—Am I? to come home in your child’s book buddy bag. Continue to read at home, talk about
story characters (who the story is about) and setting (where and when the story
takes place), and read the high frequency words I and am.
**Word
list 1 (I, a, and, the to) will be
checked during the upcoming week by Friday, 9/16 and if all words are read correctly, then Word List
2 will be tested next. If more
time is needed with list one, then List 1 words will be checked again the
following week before List 2.
Continue to practice sight words daily!!
In
Math we will finish working with Topic 14: Identifying and Describing Shapes.
Boys and girls should correctly name shapes (rectangles, squares, circles,
triangles, and hexagons) regardless of their orientation or overall size and
identify shapes as 2 dimensional, “flat” or 3 dimensional “solid”. Boys and girls have also begun
learning Number Writing Verses to help with writing numbers correctly. Check out the “verses” and practice
with your child.
For
Science we have begun to work with Chapter 1 The Nature of Science. We will be discussing how we share what
we learn, tools we use to observe, and will answer the Big Question – “What is science?” Students will be learning the following
vocabulary words: science,
observe,
and senses.
Students
will have HOMEWORK most Monday through Thursday nights. Check the RETURN side of your child’s
folder for homework assignments and be sure to check what we’ve been working on
at school. Remind your child to
RETURN the completed work to school the next school day. Not only does homework reinforce what
we are working on at school, but also it teaches your child responsibility. Thank you for your support!!!
Boys
and girls have been doing a Super Job with their AR “Book Buddy” books and
bags. Remember, any books your
child and you read together at home can be recorded on the monthly reading log
enclosed in your child’s “Book Buddy” bag. **Also, please be sure
to complete the log when the book enclosed is read. Some books are being returned without being recorded.
The
PTO school store will open on Monday, September 12th. Kindergarten students will be

at this time. Please do not put school store money in your child’s folder. (Teachers will NOT see it until after
the store closes.) **Students should keep it separate in
backpacks where THEY can reach it easily for shopping BEFORE homeroom.
