Week of April 11-15, 2016

Kindergarten News 

For Reading we will begin the story The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper.  It is a classic fantasy story, and we will be talking about how trains move.  We will be learning more about short /u/ sound and the comprehension skill, plot.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter on Monday.

In Math, we will finish up with Topic 11 Decomposing Numbers 11-19 and begin working with Topic 12 Measurement.  In Topic 12 we will be comparing objects by length, height, capacity, and weight.  Review the new math words; longer, shorter, as tall as, taller, and lighter.

Students in Grades 3-6 will be taking the PSSA tests during the next 3 weeks.  Kindergarten’s schedule will be switched around. Special classes will be 9:00-9:30 instead of 2:15-3:00.  Please talk to your child about being quiet while in the hallways during testing days!!  **THE SCHOOL STORE WILL BE CLOSED DURING THE WEEKS OF APRIL 11 and APRIL 18!  On Monday, April 11th students and staff may wear jeans, sweatpants, or shorts along with a Spartan T-shirt or dress code approved shirt to show school spirit and cheer on the students taking the PSSA tests.

Scholastic Book Orders for the month of April are due by Wednesday, April 13th for anyone interested in ordering.  Orders can be placed online or sent in to the teacher.  **Please note that coupons from Mrs. Potts are only good this month!!

The PTO Chinese Auction will be held at NSE on Saturday, April 16th and Sunday, April 17th.  Our class’ basket/bin is “A Night With the Family”.  Be sure to take a chance or more on winning!  Remember the Kindergarten class with the most tickets gets an Ice Cream party!!  (**A list of items in our basket/bin was enclosed in your child’s folder!!)  Thank you again for your donations!!!

Congratulations to all students who successfully completed their United States’ reports!  It was a fun and educational way to learn about some of the “Fifty Nifty United States”.  **Thank you to all the parents who helped “prepare” the boys and girls for their second oral report.

Friday, April 22nd is Earth day.  As part of a recycling project, students will need 1 empty toilet paper roll.  Please try to save one and send it to school before 4/22
                       
Monday, April 11th will be Day 10 – Music.  Don’t forget library books for exchange on Wednesday, April 13th and sneakers and gym attire on Friday, April 15th!
