Week of March 28-April 1, 2016

Kindergarten News

Monday, March 28^th, and Tuesday, March 29^th will be SNOW MAKE-UP days and school WILL BE IN SESSION.

For Reading we will finish the story Max Takes the Train by Rosemary Wells and will begin reading the story Mayday! Mayday! A Coast Guard Rescue.  We will discuss what kinds of transportation help us in an emergency.  We will be working with the phonics sound /ks/ spelled with the letter Xx.  We will review the comprehension skill cause and effect and the high frequency words yellow, blue, and green.  Watch for your Family Times News and practice all high frequency sight word flashcards daily!!

In Math, we will begin Topic 10.  Topic 10 will take composing numbers further from 11-19.  Continue to practice with addition and subtraction too!  **Be sure to sign, review, and return Topic 9 Test.

On Wednesday morning, 3/30, Mrs. Potts will be visiting the Child Development Center in Ft. Springs to meet the boys and girls who will be attending Kindergarten next year @ NSE and to help transition students to Kindergarten.  Please remind your child to be on his/her best behavior for the substitute teacher!  Thank you!!

The March AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets are due on Thursday, March 31^st.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.

Report cards for the 3^rd marking period will be sent home on Friday, April 1^st.  (Remember 3s are the goal for the end of Kindergarten!!) 

Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 6^th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes were sent home Monday, 3/21 with portrait package information. **All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap!   If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Wednesday, April 6^th in your child’s folder (Cash or checks made payable to P.S.P). **If you do NOT wish to purchase pictures, please send a note stating that, so the teacher knows your child just didn’t forget to bring the envelope/money.  Thank You!!   FYI: Boys will be wearing blue gowns with red hats and girls will be wearing red gowns with blue hats.

**If your child needs any additional portrait info sheets & or order envelopes please let the teacher know and one will be sent home.

Thank you to ALL who have already generously donated to our class’ Chinese Auction basket/bin for the PTO Spring Fling Auction coming up on April 16^th - April 17^h!  Our theme is “A Night With the Family”.  Donations are DUE this week.  So far we have Go Fish, a Chutes and Ladders game, 2 Candyland games, a Guesstures game, a chess/checkers/backgammon game, a Disney Eye Found It! game, and Bloco Dinosaurs, a $25 REGAL movie theatre gift card, and many cash donations. (If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.) There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the note sent home with suggestions and ideas.

Monday, March 28^th is Day 10—Music class.  **Students will exchange library books on Wednesday, March 30^th and boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Friday, April 1st.
