Kindergarten News
For Reading we will begin Unit 5: Going Places. Our first story will be Max Takes the Train by Rosemary
Wells. It is an animal fantasy
story and we will be discussing realism and fantasy. Watch for your Family
Times newsletter! New high frequency
words, yellow, green, and blue will be
the focus of this story. Please
practice all sight words daily!! Since
we will be working with the letter Jj and its sound as in jellybeans and joke,
students are asked to tell a kid’s JOKE next week. Jokes can be written down or memorized and should be
practiced at home before they are told to the class. Jokes can be shared Monday-Thursday—you choose the day!!
In Math, we will finish with Topic 9: Composing and
Decomposing Numbers to 10.
Students will decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 pairs in more
than one way, will find the number for any number from 1-9 that makes 10 when
added to the given number, and will classify objects into given categories;
count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
Review daily work mats and
continue to practice addition, subtraction, and different ways to make numbers
from 4-10.
Monday, March 21st is officially the
start of Spring! J School
will be closed on Friday, March 25th for the Easter holiday. **Thursday,
March 24th, Monday, March 28th, and Tuesday, March 29th
will be SNOW MAKE-UP days and school WILL BE IN SESSION.
On Wednesday, March 23rd, Ms. White’s 9th
grade science students will be coming for a visit in the afternoon to read a
story that was written by the students as part of a their science class. It will be exciting to hear the story
they created!!
The Kindergarten monthly SPARTAN PRIDE reward for March
will be an Egg Hunt on Thursday,
March 24th. Boys and girls will be
“hunting” for eggs with the word “this”
on the outside so be sure to practice identifying the sight word.
The March AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets are due
on Thursday, March 31st.
The goal for the month is 15+
books.
Kindergarten
Graduation Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 6th. (There will be NO make-up picture
day.) Envelopes will be sent home soon
with portrait package information. **All students will be photographed for
the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a
graduation gown. Girls should not
have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will
be wearing a graduation cap! FYI: Boys will be wearing blue gowns with red
hats and girls will be wearing red gowns with blue hats.
**If your child needs any
additional portrait info sheets & or order envelopes please let the teacher
know and one will be sent home.
Thank you to ALL who have already generously donated to our class’ Chinese Auction basket/bin for the PTO
Spring Fling Auction coming up on April 16th - April 17h!
Our theme is “A Night With the Family”. Donations are DUE the last week of March.
So far we have a Chutes and
Ladders game, a Candyland game, a Guesstures game, a chess/checkers/backgammon
game, a Disney Eye Found It!
game, and Bloco Dinosaurs, a $25 REGAL movie theatre gift card, and
many cash donations. (If a family would rather not shop for a
donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for
items for the basket.) There is no value
set and you can be creative!!

Monday, March 21st is Day 1—Computer
class. **Students will exchange library books on Monday, since the library was
not open during the past week due to Kindergarten Registration. Boys and girls will need sneakers and
gym attire on Thursday, March 24th.
