Week of March 14-18, 2016

Kindergarten News

For Reading we will read the story, Abuela by author Arthur Dorros.  This will be the last of our “adventure” stories for Unit 4.  It will be a fiction story about a city adventure and the boys and girls will learn a few Spanish words.  We will focus on the comprehension skill, setting.  We will review the sound of short /e/.  Check out the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.

For Math we will continue with Topic 9; Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10.  Students will learn different ways to make 4 through 10 and write number sentences to show these different ways.   Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.

Kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017, school year will be held this week, March 14-18.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.  **There will be no Title I or Speech services during registration.

Newspaper in Education Week ended on Friday, March 11th.  Mrs. Potts’ ad was in the Wednesday edition (3/9).  Ads can be turned in any day for a treat from the teacher.  The “I’m a Reader” forms, for those who participated, NEED to be returned to the teacher by Tuesday, March 15th with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.  Forms received after Tuesday, March 15th will NOT have student’s name printed in the newspaper for participating, so please send in completed forms ASAP.

Daylight Savings began this past weekend.  **As per the student handbook, students will NOW be permitted to wear dress code appropriate shorts to school (weather permitting of course).

**The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 16th and 17th.  Our class’ theme basket is “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received; a $25 Regal Movie Theatre Gift Card, a Guesstures game, a Chess/Checkers/Backgammon game, a Disney Eye Found It! game, and Bloco Dinosaurs, a Chutes and Landders game, a Candyland game, and some cash donations.  Donations are due to the teacher the week ending April 1st.  (If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.) There is no value set and you can be creative!!  **Please refer to the note sent home with suggestions and ideas.

Monday, March 14th is Day 1—Computers.  Be sure to pack library books on Tuesday, 3/15 and wear sneakers and gym attire on Thursday, 3/17.
