Week of February 29-March 4, 2016

Kindergarten News 

**For Reading we will finish the story One Little Mouse and introduce the classic traditional tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears as retold by Valeri Gorbachev.  We will review the comprehension skill, character and the letter sound /g/.  Watch for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  Also don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!!

**In Math we will finish Topic 8, Understanding Subtraction.  Review vocabulary; take away, difference, minus sign, and subtraction sentence.

**This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Monday, February 29^th.  The goal for the month is 15 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goal will receive a Pizza Hut coupon! 

**Friday, March 4^th is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the week we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss.  Some Bloomsburg University students will visit our classroom on 2/4 to read the book, The Cat in the Hat and to do a follow up activity with the class.  We will have some guest readers and will work with Mrs. Selgrade’s 3^rd grade class with the book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  Be sure to ask your child about their week! 

**Toothbrush charts are due back by Friday, March 4^th.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.

**Newspaper in Education Week will be March 7-11.   Detailed notes will be sent home soon, so please watch for information in your child’s folder.

**The PTO FUNDRAISER PICK-UP estimated date is scheduled for Thursday, March 10^th in the gym.  Anyone who participated will need to stop by the school to pick up his/her orders!  Thank you for your support!

**Kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year will be held this week, March 14-18.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

**The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held in April.  Our class’ theme basket will be “A Night With the Family”.  A note will be sent home next week with suggestions and ideas and more detailed information.  

Monday, February 29^th will be Day 1—Computer class on the special classes’ schedule.  *Boys and girls will need LIBRARY BOOKS on Day 2--Tuesday, March 1^st and SNEAKERS AND GYM ATTIRE on Day 4--Thursday, March 3^rd.  (Please note that if school is CLOSED due to inclement weather, the special class schedule is bumped to next school day.)
