Week of February 22-26, 2016

Kindergarten News

*For Reading our next story will be “One Little Mouse!” by Dori Chaconas.  It will be a rhyming/concept story and we will review the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will introduce consonant blends too.  Look for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.

            *In Math we will be working on Subtraction, Topic 8.  Review daily practice pages and continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether. 

            *This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Monday, February 29^th.  The goal for the month is 15 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goals will have their names entered into the end-of-the-year building-wide drawing for Accelerated Reader and will also receive a Pizza Hut coupon! 

            *Kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year will be held March 14-18, 2016.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this info. to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office. 

            *Toothbrush charts are due back by the week ending March 4^th.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.  (Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!)

            * Friday, March 4^th is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the upcoming weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday, 3/4 to read the book, The Cat in the Hat, and to do a follow up activity with the students.  We will have a guest reader or two and may also work with Mrs. Selgrade’s 3^rd grade class with the book “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”! 

*Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 7^th and continue through Friday, March 11^th.  **Information with details will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.

*The Kindergarten reward for our Spartan Pride behavior goal for the month of February will be that students may bring one toy from home to play with during recess on Friday, February 26^th.  The toy is your child’s responsibility and should remain in his/her backpack until recess and then be put back in when recess is over.  The toy should NOT be out on the bus or any time other than recess!  (Watch for a more detailed note to be sent home)

**Thank you to the homeroom moms for helping with the Valentine’s Day classroom party!  Students had a LOVE-ly time.  It was SWEET of you to volunteer!  Also, thank you to ALL the students for their sweet valentines!   XOXO

Monday, February 22^nd is Day 6 on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire for Day 8 on Wednesday, Feb. 24^th.  (Please note that if school is cancelled—the special classes get bumped so students do not miss a special class.)
