Week of February 1-5, 2016

Kindergarten News
**For Reading we will continue with the story The Lion and The Mouse and we will begin Unit 4: Let’s Go Exploring.  The first story is Rooster’s Off to See the World by Eric Carle.  It is an animal fantasy and we will be reviewing the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will work with initial /h/ sound for the letter Hh.  Review high frequency sight words daily!

**In Math we will finish Topic 6: Numbers to 100.   Please practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s and recognizing patterns on a hundred square.  We will move on
To Topic 7: Understanding Addition.  (**Review, sign, and return Topic 6 test.)

**Tuesday, February 2nd is Groundhog’s Day.  Check to see if Phil sees his shadow and whether or not there will be 6 more weeks of winter or an early spring!

**Hip, Hip, Hooray! Our 100th day is just several school days away!!!  On Friday, February 5th students are asked to dress as if they were 100 years old! (**Please note that if school is cancelled, the 100th day will be moved to the next school day.  Due to snow days on 1/25 and 1/26 this date has already changed from Wed. 2/3 to Friday 2/5!!

**February is National Children’s Dental Health Month.  Please encourage your child to brush his/her teeth at least twice a day and to practice good dental health habits.  **Look for the special “toothbrush chart” and dental health note enclosed in your child’s folder on Friday, 1/29!         (Start coloring the chart on Mon., 2/1/16)

**Scholastic book orders for the month of February are due on Thursday, February 4th for anyone interested in ordering. 

**February recording sheets for our AR “Book Buddy” bags will be sent home on Friday, 1/29.  The goal for the month is 15+ books.  January Pizza Hut reward coupons will be enclosed in your child’s folder too. 

**On Thursday, February 11th we will be having our Valentine’s party from 1:30-3:00.  Valentines will be “delivered” the day of the party, so be sure to bring them to school before then!

**There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, February 12th due to a scheduled ACT 80 day, and Monday, February 15th—Presidents’ Day.

Monday, February 1st will be Day 4 – gym.  Be sure to wear sneakers and gym attire.
