Week of November 16-20, 2015

Kindergarten News
Thank you to ALL the parents who attended Parent/Teacher conferences on Monday, November 9th.  Your interest and support in your child’s education are greatly appreciated and important to your child’s success!

**In Reading we will finish up with the story Bear Snores On and will begin the new story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace.  It will be an informational text.  We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will be working on the short /i/ sound as in inch, igloo, and iguana.  Watch for the new Family Times and Phonics Reader to be sent home.  Continue to practice the high frequency words.  To celebrate our letter Cc from this week, we will all be our favorite Big, Red Dog—Clifford on Monday, 11/16.  If possible students should try to wear a red shirt and Mrs. Potts will supply the big, red ears and black nose! J

**In Math we will be finishing up Topic 2 and will begin Topic 3:  Numbers 6-10.  Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways.  Students should be practicing writing numbers from 0-5 correctly and continue counting by 1’s to 100.  Take some time at home to review the daily practice pages completed at school.  Please review, sign, and return Topic 2 test when it is enclosed in RETURN.

**NSE Picture Make-up/Re-take day will be held on Wednesday, November 18th.  Please make sure if your child is having picture retakes to send his/her first package of pictures with him/her that day.  Questions regarding picture packages, contact PSP at 1-800-248-6394.

** The 2nd Annual Coat, Hat, Scarf & Glove Drive and Give Away will begin with donations being accepted from Monday, November 2nd through Friday, December 4th, and the Give-A-Way on either Thursday, December 10th; 4-7 pm and/or Saturday, December 12th; 10am-2 pm.  Help Keep Our Community Warmer This Winter!

**We will begin preparing for “Thanksgiving”.  During the next two weeks students will learn about the first Thanksgiving, will make pilgrim and Native American/Indian costumes, and will begin to learn a poem or song for the holiday.  We will make a Thanksgiving bracelet and will also discuss being “thankful”.  The students will even get to use a Native American name for a day!

Monday, November 16th will be Day 2 on the special classes’ schedule.  We will have Library; so don’t forget library books for exchange!  Boys and Girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday, November 18th for Day 4-gym class.
