Week of October 26-30, 2015

Kindergarten News 
**This week we will be reviewing letter Aa and its two sounds, short /a/ as in cat and long /a/ as in acorn, and learning the consonant letter Ss as in sun, snake, and Saturday.  Please continue to review all the letters we have learned so far.    Don’t forget to practice with letter tiles on Wednesday nights!!
**In Reading we will begin to read the story Nature Spy.  We will be looking at what we can learn about nature when we look closely.   We will focus on learning the comprehension skill setting and practice the learned high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter to be sent home!  **Continue to practice sight word flashcards daily!!
**For Math we will be finishing up with Topic 1, so review counting sets/objects to 5, comparing sets, writing and reading numbers to 5.   Topic 2 will continue with comparing and ordering 0-5.  We will compare using more, fewer, and same as and learn ordinal numbers through fifth.   Be sure to review, sign, and return Topic 1 Test when it comes home.
**Red Ribbon Week campaign is set for October 23-31, 2015.  The theme is “Respect Yourself, Be Drug Free!” – Check out the week’s scheduled events/information sheet in your child’s folder!  (Mon. 10/26—wear jeans; Tues. 10/27—wear crazy socks; Wed. 10/28—crazy hair day; Thurs. 10/29—wear sweats to school—no writing on sweatpants and try to wear PINK for cancer awareness month; Friday 10/30—wear Red and Blue and Jeans are permitted (Friday night’s football game will be a PINK out!)
**We have been collecting money for this year’s classroom parties.   Please send in $5.00 in an envelope with your child’s name and classroom and mark “Party Money” on the outside of the envelope, if you have not already done so. Thank you!!
**Anyone who has not yet returned the orange Field Trip permission form and/or lunch order form is asked to do so as soon as possible.   The Kindergarten Field Trip is scheduled for Friday, November 13th(Approved Parent chaperones are also asked to return the yellow field trip form as well)
**Friday, October 30th will be the school-wide Fall Festival and Halloween parade/party.   Students will meet Smokey Bear and participate in Fall Festival activities throughout the day.  The parade will begin at 1:30pm with the 6th grade students and end with Kindergarten.  Students will parade in front of the HOME side bleachers at the HS stadium, weather permitting.  ALL are welcome to come to see the children parade. (**Please refer to the parade note) Your child should NOT wear his/her costume to school!  Please send the costume to school in a bag with your child’s name on the outside.  Students will get dressed in costumes in the classroom after 1:00.  Keep in mind students will be dressing at school, so keep the costumes as simple as possible.  (No spraying hair at school, or a face full of make-up at school)  **With trick-or-treat approaching, we ask that students do NOT bring candy for snacks at school and limit extra candy in lunch boxes too.  Thanks for your cooperation!
**October AR/BOOK BUDDY recording sheets are due on Friday, October 30th.  Please try to return all books by Friday so we can switch book boxes and begin November with a new selection of books!!  The goal for October is 16 or more books, and all students who meet or exceed the goal will earn a punch on their AR ticket as well as a monthly treat!!
**Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, November 9th from 12:00-6:00.  Please be sure to return conference forms (enclosed in folders) as soon as possible, but NO LATER than Friday, October 30th so a schedule can be made.

**The Book Fair ended Friday, 10/23.  Thank you to ALL the parent volunteers who helped at the fair and also to all who purchased books.  Happy reading!

Monday, October 26th will be Day 4—Gym class, and students will need sneakers and gym attire**Library class will be Thursday, October 29th so be sure to bring library books for exchange!
