Week of October 12-16, 2015

Kindergarten News
     We will finish the story Smash! Crash! and will begin the story Dig, Dig, Digging in Reading.  We will be talking about how machines help people.  We will be practicing the sound /t/ for the letter Tt and the skill classifying and categorizing.  Watch for the new Family Times newsletter and continue to review the high frequency words; I, am, the, little, to, and a when your read together. Practice ALL sight word flash cards and be sure to practice letter identification/naming, letter sounds, blending, and alphabet order when letter tiles come home for homework on Wednesday nights!

      For Math we will finish Topic 16 and begin Topic 1:  One to Five.  Students will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 1-5.  Be sure to review the daily practice pages that your child brings home in his/her folder! **Topic 16 Test will come late in the week.  Please review, sign, and return!

      Oct. 4-10 wass Fire Prevention Week so please take some time at home to discuss fire safety with your child and family.  Be sure to have a practice fire drill and create an escape plan with a designated meeting place and watch for our class book, Be Cool About Fire Safety. 

     There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 12th, Columbus Day, due to a scheduled Teacher In-Service day.  School will reopen on Tuesday, October 13th – Picture Day.  MONEY is due at the time of pictures and SCHOOL DRESS CODE is to be followed on picture day!  ALL students will be photographed whether or not pictures are being purchased.   Kindergarten will be photographed early so be on time to school!  Also, if you DO NOT plan to purchase pictures, please send a note stating you do not want to buy pictures, so we are not looking for an order/money envelope that morning.   Thank you!!

     We will participate in the Great Shake Out Earthquake Drill on Thursday, October 15th.  Students will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On”, which is the recommended appropriate action to reduce injury during earthquakes. 

     The School-wide Book Fair will take place in the Library starting Monday, October 19th.  **Parents will be able to shop with their child on Monday night (10/19) from 4-7 pm if interested.

Mark your calendars--Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Monday, November 9th.  More information will be sent home closer to the date.

Tuesday, October 13th will be Day 10— Music. Library books will be exchanged on Thursday, October 15th!
